LEGO Harry Potter 76471 Knockturn Alley Shops Building Set, 788 Pieces

For children aged 8 and up who enjoy building and imaginative Harry Potter play, this LEGO Knockturn Alley set brings two wizarding shops together in one detailed model.

Borgin and Burkes and Potage’s Cauldron Shop recreate memorable locations from the wizarding world, with interactive details and familiar characters to discover.

Once built, the shops can be played with, displayed in a child’s room or connected to each other using the brick-built arch. The set contains 788 pieces.

Pros

The two shops offer different details to explore. At Borgin and Burkes, a minifigure can enter through the Floo Network, while the Hand of Glory has an activating feature. The shop also contains magical artefacts, including a Vanishing Cabinet and a cursed Opal Necklace. At Potage’s Cauldron Shop, cauldrons in different sizes include a ‘self-stirring’ magic cauldron. These features give children several ways to create shopping trips and stories rather than building a model that is only for display.

Eight minifigures bring the scenes to life: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy, Narcissa Malfoy, Madam Potage, Mr Borgin and Fenrir Greyback. The set also includes Ron’s Dog Patronus, a LEGO Harry Potter 25th anniversary collectible. For fans who enjoy collecting characters as well as building, these figures add plenty of familiar faces to the finished scene.

What to know

This is a building set for ages 8 and up, and assembly is required. The Borgin and Burkes shop measures over 19 cm high, 19 cm wide and 7 cm deep. The two shops connect with the included brick-built arch, they can also connect to shops in the LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley range, which are sold separately.

The LEGO Builder app provides 3D instructions, with options to zoom in and rotate the model, as well as save and track building progress. This gives children another way to follow the build and see how the sections fit together. As the set contains small parts, it is not suitable for children under 3 years old.

Getting the most from it

For a rainy afternoon or a shared building session, children can assemble the shops and then use the minifigures to play out a visit to Knockturn Alley. One scene can centre on entering Borgin and Burkes through the Floo Network, another can explore the cauldrons at Potage’s shop. The connected layout helps keep both settings together, while the characters and magical mechanisms provide prompts for changing the story.

If the main aim is a static display, a character collectible may be a simpler choice. This set suits children who want the building process and hands-on play as well as a model to keep on display. Its two recognisable locations, eight minifigures and interactive shop details make it a fitting birthday gift for young Harry Potter fans and a substantial addition to a LEGO Wizarding World collection.

Is it worth it?

Choose this set for a young fan who will enjoy more than the finished model: building two shops, discovering their features and making up scenes with the minifigures. The connected Knockturn Alley layout also gives the display a clear setting, while compatibility with shops in the LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley range offers a way to extend it with separately sold sets.
