LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons 76447, 651-piece set

Made from plastic, LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons 76447 recreates a section of Hogwarts for building and imaginative play. The scenes centre on flying lessons, Quidditch and Transfiguration.

The build includes a Quidditch equipment room, a Transfiguration classroom, Professor McGonagall’s office and a trophy room. Pull-out rooms and broom-flying and Transfiguration functions give children ways to change the scene as they play, rather than leaving the model as a display build. The listed unfolded dimensions also help when deciding where to set it up for play.

Everyday use

This set is designed around familiar moments from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Children can act out Quidditch and classroom scenes with the included characters, or invent their own Wizarding World stories. For example, the broom-flying feature can provide a starting point for a flying lesson before play moves into the Transfiguration classroom or trophy room.

The fold-out design gives access to several spaces within the same castle section. That makes it a different kind of purchase from a simple standalone build focused mainly on display: here, the rooms and play functions are part of the appeal. The LEGO Builder app can guide the build, with options to zoom in, rotate models in 3D, track progress and save sets. The product information also states that the set supports creative thinking, imagination, motor skills and social skills, these are intended play outcomes, not guaranteed results.

Included in the pack

There are six minifigures: Harry Potter, Neville Longbottom, Draco Malfoy, Professor McGonagall, Madam Hooch and Oliver Wood. The set also includes two random Hogwarts portrait elements from a collection of 14. The mix of characters gives children several roles to use in the classroom and Quidditch scenes, while the portraits add a collectible detail to the rooms.

This is one of a range of modular Hogwarts sets, with other sets sold separately to connect and build a larger castle scene. It is therefore best understood as a playable section of Hogwarts, rather than a complete castle on its own. Small parts are included, the safety warning says it is not suitable for children under 3.

Should you buy it?

It’s a good fit if the child enjoys both building and role-play, especially with Harry Potter characters and locations. The six minifigures, multiple rooms and fold-out format give the finished model several ways to be used after the build is complete. It may not suit you if you want a complete Hogwarts display from one set, as this model is a modular section and the connecting sets are sold separately. For a child who would rather assemble a model than play out scenes, a display-led build may be a better match.
