TOPDON TC001 Thermal Camera for Android, 512×384 Super Resolution, 9 Palettes

When you need thermal information during hands-on inspections, a compact camera that connects to an Android device keeps the viewing and analysis in one portable setup. The TOPDON TC001 is designed for checking HVAC systems, electrical equipment, insulation and possible water leaks, with enhanced thermal imaging and tools to help interpret temperature patterns.

Connect it to an Android phone or tablet that supports OTG and use the app to view and assess a scene. Its small format makes it practical to carry between inspection points.

Usage tips

Start with a scan of the area, then use the app’s Point, Line or Surface detection dimensions to examine specific temperatures. Line and Surface modes can show the highest or lowest readings, while the built-in waveform graph tracks high, low and average temperatures as a scene changes. This is useful when comparing heat patterns around an HVAC system, checking for an unusually warm electrical component or following a suspected area of heat loss.

The camera enhances its 256×192 thermal resolution to 512×384 using TISR technology, helping reveal more detail in the image. Choose from nine colour palettes to make temperature differences easier to distinguish, and use image fusion to combine thermal imagery with the phone’s visible camera view for added scene context. The image rotation function also lets you change the viewing angle without repositioning your phone.

What you’ll notice day to day

At 2.8 × 1.65 × 0.55 inches and 30 grams, the TC001 is easy to bring along for home checks or jobsite diagnostics. Its 19.7-inch cable and USB converter allow flexible positioning while connected to a compatible Android device. The app can monitor up to nine target areas at once, which helps when you want to compare several points during a single inspection rather than move between separate readings.

For regular troubleshooting, the stated measurement range of -4°F to 1,022°F (-20°C to 550°C) covers a variety of inspection tasks, from checking temperature changes in a room to examining hot equipment. A manual shutter switch lets you turn off the shutter click sound when capturing images. An EVA storage bag and cleaning cloth are included to help protect the camera and keep its lens clear between uses.

Worth noting

The TC001 connects through a compatible Android phone or tablet, so confirm that the device supports OTG before setting up the camera. This phone-connected approach suits users who want thermal imaging alongside an existing mobile device, the app’s detection modes, palettes and waveform view add ways to examine a scene beyond simply viewing a thermal image. For example, during an insulation check, image fusion can help relate a temperature pattern to the visible area being inspected, while the waveform can show how readings change over time.

Final verdict

For homeowners, HVAC technicians and electrical troubleshooters who want a portable thermal camera for Android, the TOPDON TC001 brings enhanced 512×384 imaging, multiple ways to assess temperatures and practical image tools into a compact setup. It is particularly useful for targeted checks where seeing temperature patterns and comparing selected areas can guide the next step in an inspection.
