The Best of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello: Volume 1 DVD Collection
Product description
A classic-comedy night at home starts with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello trading comic missteps across a full-length film collection. The Best of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello: Volume 1 brings together eight features on DVD, making it easy to move from one of the duo’s familiar comic setups to another.
The set spans films released from 1940 to 1942, including service comedies, a haunted-house story, a western and a mystery. That variety gives the collection more range than a single-film DVD while keeping the focus on Abbott and Costello.
Across four discs, the collection offers 11 hours and 15 minutes of viewing. It is presented in DVD-Video, NTSC format, with English audio and subtitles.
Worth noting
The eight films are One Night in the Tropics, Buck Privates, In the Navy, Hold That Ghost, Keep ’Em Flying, Ride ’Em Cowboy, Pardon My Sarong and Who Done It? The stories put the duo in distinctly different situations: they get caught up in a love-insurance scheme, stumble into military service, encounter a haunted house and become suspects in a murder case. Musical-comedy and western settings add further variety, so the set suits viewers who want more than one kind of Abbott and Costello feature.
Disc 1 includes production notes and a theatrical trailer for One Night in the Tropics. Customers describe the comedy as lighthearted and entertaining, and praise the films’ video quality. Those impressions make this collection especially appealing to fans revisiting the duo’s screen work or discovering these classic comedies at home.
Best use cases
This is a practical choice for a classic-film collection, a relaxed movie night or a longer viewing session built around the comedy team. The mix of stories also makes it easy to pick a film to suit the mood, whether that means a mystery, a western setting or a musical comedy. Compared with buying one feature at a time, this four-disc set brings eight films together in one collection.
