The Bride! DVD-Video (NTSC) with Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale
Product description
For viewers looking for a feature-length DVD with a fresh take on Frankenstein, The Bride! brings together a bold reanimation premise and a story of unexpected romance. Jessie Buckley stars as the Bride, with Christian Bale as Frankenstein and Maggie Gyllenhaal directing. The DVD-Video format is NTSC, so playback calls for a compatible setup.
Worth noting
The story begins in 1930s Chicago, where a lonely Frankenstein turns to groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious for help creating a companion. Their experiment revives a murdered young woman, and the Bride’s arrival sets events in motion that neither of them expected. The premise moves beyond the creature’s search for companionship to give the revived woman a central place in the story.
Murder, possession, a radical cultural movement and a romance between outlaw lovers all feature in this combustible tale. That combination gives the film a distinct direction: it brings horror elements together with a relationship-driven story, rather than focusing only on the creation of Frankenstein’s companion. Annette Bening also appears as Dr. Euphronious, alongside Buckley and Bale.
Who it’s for
This DVD suits viewers drawn to Frankenstein stories that shift attention to the Bride and explore what happens after she is brought back to life. It also fits a movie night when you want a feature-length story with horror, romance and a period setting. The 1930s Chicago backdrop and the cast give the premise a clear sense of place and a strong ensemble at its centre.
At 2 hours and 6 minutes, it offers a substantial feature to settle in with, rather than a short-form viewing option. If your priority is a physical copy of this particular film, the DVD format offers a straightforward way to add it to a home movie collection. Viewers choosing a disc for a compatible NTSC DVD-Video setup can watch the story in its stated format.
Everyday use
Put the DVD on for a focused evening watch, or keep it with other films for a future movie night. Its feature-length runtime makes it well suited to setting aside time for the full story, from Frankenstein’s request to the consequences of creating the Bride. The plot’s blend of a scientist’s experiment, a revived woman and outlaw romance gives viewers several story threads to follow in one film.
A physical DVD is a practical choice for people who prefer keeping films on disc, while a different viewing format may better suit someone whose main priority is not building a disc collection. For this edition, check that the playback equipment supports DVD-Video NTSC. The stated release date is May 19, 2026.
