For a relaxed evening with character-led television, As Time Goes By follows Lionel and Jean as they reconnect after being separated by life in the early 1950s and try to rekindle their long-lost love. Starring Dame Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer, this newly remastered Volume One brings the first three seasons together in one DVD collection.

Four discs provide 10 hours and 53 minutes of English-language viewing, making the set well suited to settling in for several episodes at a time.

What stands out

The appeal centres on Lionel and Jean’s reunion and the warmth and wit of their story. Dame Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer lead the series, giving this collection a clear focus on its two central characters as their relationship develops. The remastered edition brings the first three seasons together, so viewers can follow the story across the included seasons in one set rather than assembling them individually.

Want a little more than the episodes themselves? The set also includes “Time to Remember: Part One,” an interview with Dame Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer. It offers an additional feature connected directly to the stars of the series, rounding out a collection made for fans of the show as well as viewers discovering it for the first time.
