Fred Astaire, Danny Kaye, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Judy Garland are among the featured stars. Titles include Second Chorus, The Inspector General, Road to Bali, At War with the Army and Till the Clouds Roll By.

Best use cases

This set works well for a classic-musical movie night, or for viewers who like keeping several films on hand rather than choosing just one title. The selection moves from slapstick comedy to romance and lavish musical numbers, giving a group different styles to choose from across multiple evenings. It also suits anyone exploring how film musicals developed during the genre’s celebrated mid-century period, with songs and choreography woven into stories rather than presented only as stage performances.

For a casual viewing plan, pick a familiar star or title for the evening, then return to the collection when the mood calls for another style. The range of performers and films gives the set a broader scope than a collection built around a single performer or one kind of musical.

Pros

The main advantage is variety: 17 films bring together a substantial selection of classic musicals in one DVD collection. With more than 25 hours of material, there is room for repeat viewing as well as discovering titles that may be less familiar. The different stars and comic approaches help keep the collection engaging across several movie nights, while the mix of song, dance and comedy reflects the broad appeal of the era.

Buyers often praise the selection of older musicals, their enjoyment of the films and the audio. Some also describe the collection as an enjoyable way to revisit classic Hollywood. These are viewer impressions rather than guarantees, but they speak to the set’s appeal for fans of the genre.

Worth noting

This is a DVD-Video collection in NTSC format, intended for playback on equipment that supports NTSC DVDs. That format is useful to check when choosing a DVD collection for a particular player. The films cover a distinct period of musical cinema, with performances and choreography that reflect the era rather than a modern production style.

Buyer feedback on authenticity and playback is mixed. Some viewers report a satisfying viewing experience, while others describe issues with playback or the presentation. The collection’s core appeal remains its selection of 17 classic films and the range of performers represented.

Is it worth it?

For viewers who enjoy classic musicals, this collection offers a practical way to bring a broad selection of the genre’s song, dance and comedy into one DVD set. It is especially suited to people who want variety across movie nights, whether revisiting Fred Astaire and Judy Garland or discovering other featured performers. Choose it for the breadth of its 1937–1957 selection and its 25 hours and 44 minutes of classic musical entertainment.
