Product description
For viewers seeking Stanley Kubrick’s take on Stephen King’s horror story, Shining, The: Special Edition brings the film to Blu-ray in a widescreen presentation. Jack Nicholson stars as Jack Torrance, the off-season caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel, where the quiet setting gives way to a tense story involving his wife and young son.
Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd, and Scatman Crothers also star in this 2-hour-and-24-minute film. The Special Edition format makes it a fitting pick for a physical movie collection centered on Kubrick, Nicholson, or classic horror.
The essentials
Kubrick’s film builds its unease through the Overlook’s cavernous spaces and the growing tension within the Torrance family. Rather than relying only on its haunted-hotel premise, it creates a distinctive atmosphere through its visual approach and Nicholson’s portrayal of Jack. What makes this version stand out for horror fans? It brings together a celebrated director, a memorable cast, and a story that continues to invite discussion.
The Blu-ray is presented in color and widescreen, with English audio in Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby TrueHD 5.1. French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 audio are also listed. English, French, and Spanish subtitles provide additional viewing options, and the format information includes closed captions. The disc is rated R.
Buyers highlight Nicholson’s performance and the film’s lasting classic-horror appeal. Some also praise the Blu-ray’s visual presentation, making this edition a natural choice for viewers who want to revisit the film on disc rather than choose a different adaptation or a general horror title.
