ParaNorman 826663231823 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Animated Film

This 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray edition presents ParaNorman as a two-format home-video release. The animated story follows a boy who can see and speak with the dead. Its zombie-and-curse plot mixes spooky scenes with humor. A range of bonus materials adds context on the film’s stop-motion work.

Tips for day-to-day use

ParaNorman suits a movie night when you want family animation with a slightly eerie edge, rather than a purely light or gentle story. Norman’s unusual ability leads him into a supernatural adventure involving zombies, ghosts, witches, and a centuries-old curse. The 1-hour-and-32-minute runtime gives you a defined feature-length watch, and the English, French, and Spanish subtitle options offer flexibility for different viewing preferences.

The PG rating is useful context, but it does not mean every child will find the story comfortable. Buyers express mixed views about how scary it feels for younger viewers: some enjoy the spooky elements, while others say certain scenes may be unsettling. The plot also includes adult humor alongside its family-oriented adventure, so the intended audience’s tolerance for ghosts and zombies matters more than the animation format alone. A solid pick if your household enjoys funny, offbeat animated stories with a little Halloween atmosphere. You may want to skip it if you need a gentle, non-spooky film for a young child.

Included in the package

The listed bonus content includes a 4K restoration, a Dolby Atmos 7.1 mix, feature-length storyboards, character and concept art, behind-the-scenes photo galleries, and an audio commentary from writer-director Chris Butler and co-director Sam Fell. It also lists two Inside LAIKA features, one focused on characters and effects with rare test footage and another revisiting the puppets with the animation team. Additional extras include Peering Through the Veil, original featurettes, and an art-and-essay mini-book.

That material gives this edition more to explore than a basic film-only release, especially for viewers interested in how the characters and stop-motion effects were developed. If you mainly want to watch the movie once, the extras may matter less than the 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray format and language options.

Before you decide

Is this a 4K-only release? No. The listed format is 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray, so both formats are part of the edition.

What language options are listed? English and French DTS 5.1 audio are listed, with English, French, and Spanish subtitles.

Is it suitable for young children? It is rated PG, but the story includes zombies and other supernatural elements. Buyer feedback is mixed on how scary it may be for younger viewers, so consider the child’s comfort with spooky scenes.

Should you buy it?

Choose this edition if you want ParaNorman in both 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray and value the substantial set of listed production extras. It also makes sense for viewers who enjoy stop-motion animation and can appreciate a story that pairs comedy with supernatural scares. If the main priority is a calmer film for a very young audience, the PG rating alone may not settle that choice, the zombie-and-ghost premise is worth weighing against the viewer’s sensitivity.
