IRIS USA 500587 Small High-Sided Cat Litter Box, Open-Top Scatter Shield

Tall sides help keep kicked litter and spraying inside the pan, giving your cat a defined bathroom area and helping keep the surrounding floor tidier. The open top keeps the litter easy to see and the pan easy to access. Looking for containment without a covered box? This design pairs high walls with an open-air layout. Its small size and gray plastic construction suit a straightforward, easy-to-place litter setup.

The high walls form a scatter shield around the litter area, helping contain mess while leaving the top open. That combination offers a practical middle ground between a basic low-sided tray and a hooded design: your cat can enter through the open top, and you can see the litter and check the box without lifting a cover. The extra-deep pan and tall sides are especially useful for cats that kick litter while digging or whose spraying can reach beyond a shallow tray.

Best use cases

This small litter box is suited to a home that needs a compact pan with added side coverage. Use it where an open top makes it easier to keep an eye on litter condition and your cat’s bathroom habits, while the surrounding walls help limit scattering. Its rectangular footprint gives you clear dimensions to plan for a litter station, and its lightweight plastic construction makes the pan manageable to move when cleaning or refreshing the setup.

The open design also keeps the daily routine direct: scoop from above, check the litter at a glance, and return the box to its place. The included scoop and walls support the basic setup, while the pan format keeps access straightforward for cats. For shoppers comparing a low-sided tray with a hooded box, this model emphasizes an open top and high sides in one simple layout.

Getting the most from it

Place the pan on a level area with enough room for its 17.38 x 13.44-inch footprint, and position it so your cat can approach the open top comfortably. Add cat litter suited to your household’s routine, then use the open view to check its condition and scoop as needed. The tall sides help keep litter and spraying within the tray, while the open top makes cleaning and visual checks accessible from above.

Because the box is lightweight, moving it during a cleaning routine is straightforward. Keep the litter area organized by returning the pan to its planned spot after cleaning, and use the supplied scoop for routine removal. The gray plastic finish and simple pan shape make it a functional fit for a dedicated litter station without adding a lid or enclosed top.

Buying verdict

Choose the IRIS USA 500587 when a small cat litter pan needs more side coverage than a standard low-wall tray while retaining the accessibility of an open top. Its high sides, extra-deep pan, visible interior, and included scoop make everyday litter care more direct, with a design aimed at containing kicked litter and spray around the box.
