IRIS USA 588423 Enclosed Cat Litter Box, Navy, Front Entry

For a cat that prefers a more enclosed place to use the litter box, the IRIS USA 588423 adds a hood and front-entry flap to a plastic pan. Its navy finish and covered walk-through design make it a practical alternative to an open tray when you want a more private setup and a barrier around the litter area.

The box measures 21 x 18.75 x 17 inches, with listed interior dimensions of 15.25 x 14 x 15.5 inches. That makes the stated small-to-medium cat use more relevant than the roomy-sounding exterior dimensions alone.

Quick overview

This is a covered cat litter box with a front opening measuring 9.25 x 9 inches. The hood is intended to help contain litter and spraying, while the flap provides walk-through access. These features create a more enclosed arrangement than a basic open pan, but the door adds a moving part that some buyers report can fall off, stick, or fail to stay in place.

The plastic construction includes buckles and a carrying handle for moving the unit when it needs emptying. A cat litter scoop is included, and its hook lets you store it under the hood between cleanings. Buyers often appreciate that the top can be removed for cleaning, though feedback about overall build quality is mixed. Some also find the interior roomy, while others say it feels small, especially for multiple cats.

Practical tips

Use the listed interior dimensions to judge whether your cat has enough room to enter, turn around, and settle comfortably, the outside measurements do not describe the usable space inside. The stated opening dimensions can also help you decide whether the front entry suits your cat. If you already use an open pan, the hood and flap change the experience by making the entrance more enclosed.

For routine maintenance, the removable hood provides access to the pan, and the included scoop can hang inside when not in use. The handle and buckles are intended to help when carrying the box, but reports of parts breaking or coming loose make careful handling sensible. A solid pick if you want a covered setup with an included scoop and storage hook. Not the best choice if your cat needs a larger interior or you want to avoid a flap door, given the reported fit and door concerns.

Who it’s for

This model is aimed at cat owners looking for a private, covered litter area rather than a simple open tray. Its stated use is for small to medium cats, and its enclosed design may suit households trying to keep the litter area less exposed. It can also work for someone who wants a removable hood for access during cleaning. If you prioritize an uncomplicated pan with no door mechanism, an open design is the more direct alternative, this box makes more sense when the hood and walk-through entry matter to your setup.

Buyer feedback is divided on size and durability. Some say the box works well for their cats and is easy to clean, while others report that the door or handle can come loose or break. Those concerns are worth weighing alongside the enclosed design, particularly if the door will be used frequently.

Final verdict
