IRIS USA 588430 Large Covered Cat Litter Box, Front Entry, Dark Gray

Some litter setups prioritize an open, unobstructed tray. The IRIS USA 588430 takes a more enclosed approach, giving cats a private space behind a covered, walk-through front entry.

Its hood and flap are designed to help keep litter particles and odors contained, while the front opening provides direct access. The dark gray jumbo enclosure suits homes looking for a covered litter area with a scoop close at hand.

A carrying handle and buckles make the box easier to move when it’s time to empty it. The included scoop has a hook for storage beneath the hood.

Everyday use

The covered layout creates a defined litter area rather than leaving the tray fully open. The front flap lets a cat enter through the hood, and the enclosed design helps keep kicked litter and spraying inside the box. This can be useful in a shared living space where keeping the area around the litter station neater matters. The flap is intended to help contain odors, too.

The box measures 21 x 18.75 x 17 inches, with interior dimensions of 15.25 x 14 x 15.5 inches. The manufacturer describes it as offering space for small to medium cats. The entry opening measures 9.25 inches wide by 9 inches high, giving you a clear reference when considering whether the walk-through design suits your cat. For cleaning, the hood can be opened, and the scoop can be hung underneath so it stays near the box between uses.

What you’ll notice day to day

The hood provides a more private space for cats that prefer an enclosed litter area, while the walk-through entry keeps access at the front. The scoop’s built-in hook is a practical storage detail: it has a designated place under the hood instead of needing a separate holder. When you need to move the box for emptying, the carrying handle and buckles support that task.

Buyers often appreciate how the box works for messy cats and how accessible it is to clean. Feedback is more mixed on the size and how well it contains litter, so the interior measurements are useful for matching the space to your cat and usual litter setup. Some buyers also report that the door or top does not always stay secured as expected. These are customer experiences rather than a measure of every unit, but they offer helpful context when choosing an enclosed design.

Compared with an open tray, this covered approach puts more emphasis on privacy and containing mess around the litter area. An open setup may suit a household that wants an unobstructed tray, this one is designed for a defined, hooded space with front access and a place to store the scoop.
