Playmags 159 Magnetic Building Board, 12" x 12" Plastic Base Plate

For children who enjoy building with magnetic tiles, the Playmags 159 provides a dedicated starting plate for their next structure. Its role is simple: give a tile build a defined base from which to grow.

Made from plastic and sized at 12" x 12", the board is a practical add-on to a magnetic building set. It can be used with Playmags tiles or other magnetic building blocks.

There is no assembly required and no battery needed, so children can get straight to arranging tiles and developing their own designs.

Key points

A building plate gives children a clear place to begin a design, whether they are making a simple arrangement or working towards a three-dimensional structure. The product is intended to support creative thinking and play around architecture, geometry and basic engineering concepts through hands-on construction.

The board is sold as a single plate, making it a focused addition when the aim is to add a foundation rather than more tiles to a collection. Its magnetic-tile format is designed for use with Playmags and other magnetic building blocks, giving families a straightforward way to extend an existing set.

Buyers often praise the board’s play value and perceived quality, and some describe it as a stable starting point for builds. Feedback on magnetic hold is mixed. Some also feel the board is smaller than expected or question its value, so its stated 12" x 12" size is useful when deciding how it will fit into a child’s building setup.

Quick sizing guide

The board measures 12" x 12" and is a single base plate. It suits a play area where children want a defined footprint for starting a magnetic-tile construction. The colour may vary, with blue or red listed for this product.

Best use cases

Use the plate as the starting point for tile-based buildings, shapes and other imaginative structures. For example, a child can begin by arranging tiles across the board and then build upwards, exploring how different shapes come together. The architectural theme and creative-thinking objective make this a hands-on way to bring basic design ideas into play.

It also suits families choosing between adding a foundation and expanding a set with extra tiles. If the main need is a dedicated base for construction, this board addresses that purpose, if the aim is simply to increase the number of pieces available, additional tiles serve a different role. The product is listed for one player and has a manufacturer-recommended age range of 36 months to 15 years.

Should you buy it?

Choose the Playmags 159 if a child’s magnetic-tile play would benefit from a separate starting plate for building and creative design. Its 12" x 12" plastic format offers a clear base for structures, while the option to use it with Playmags or other magnetic building blocks makes it a useful add-on to an existing tile collection. It is best suited to a purchase focused on giving builds a dedicated foundation rather than adding more pieces to the set.
