Song Sung Blue (2025) Collector’s Edition DVD, NTSC

For viewers seeking a music-led drama, Song Sung Blue follows two musicians as they build a Neil Diamond tribute act and face life’s setbacks together.

Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star as Mike and Claire, whose band, Lightning and Thunder, grows from garage rehearsals to hometown recognition.

This Collector’s Edition DVD pairs their story with bonus performances and behind-the-scenes features, making it a physical-disc edition with more to explore after the film.

What to know

Based on a true story, the film blends romance, music and drama. Mike and Claire find connection through their shared love of performing, then turn that passion into Lightning and Thunder, a Neil Diamond tribute band. The story follows their rise from modest beginnings to local success, and the way their relationship and music help them through hardship.

The 2-hour-and-12-minute feature stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, with Jim Belushi, Fisher Stevens and Michael Imperioli among the cast. DVD-Video in NTSC format gives the film a physical home in a movie collection. The edition also includes extended performances, featurettes on the duo and their style, and a feature commentary with writer-director Craig Brewer.

Buyer feedback often highlights the lead performances, the story of Lightning and Thunder, and the Neil Diamond songs. Viewers also describe the film as entertaining and emotionally engaging, making its mix of music and relationship drama a key part of its appeal.

Practical tips

This edition is a fit for DVD collections and for viewers who prefer a feature-length story to a disc centred only on concert footage. Its focus is the musicians’ journey, with tribute performances woven into the narrative. The bonus material adds further viewing on the performances, the making of Lightning and Thunder, and the film’s visual style.

The feature runs for 2 hours and 12 minutes. Audio options are English and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, with French and Spanish subtitles. These options make it easier to choose a suitable viewing and listening setup at home. The disc is in NTSC DVD-Video format.

Who it’s for

Choose it for fans of Hugh Jackman or Kate Hudson, viewers drawn to stories about musicians, and Neil Diamond listeners interested in a drama inspired by the people behind a tribute act. The film’s combination of romance, performance and resilience also suits a movie night where a character-led story matters as much as the songs.

It makes sense if you want a narrative music film with extra material to revisit, rather than a standalone collection of songs. The extended performances and director’s commentary give collectors and fans additional ways to spend time with the film beyond its main feature.

When it makes sense

This edition is especially suited to a home collection built around music stories, romantic dramas or films featuring its lead cast. Put it on when you want a full-length story about finding love and pursuing a shared dream, with Neil Diamond tribute performances at its centre. The DVD format and included extras bring the film and its musical journey together in one collector’s edition.
