SANSECT BSFL-5 Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae, 5 lb High-Protein Treat

Calcium-rich black soldier fly larvae add a protein-packed treat to feeding routines for chickens and other animals. SANSECT BSFL-5 comes in a 5-pound package, giving flock keepers a substantial supply for regular use. Serve them to backyard hens, offer them to wild birds, or use them as feed for reptiles. The resealable bag helps keep the dried larvae fresh between feedings.

Practical tips

Use the larvae as a treat alongside your animals’ regular feed. For a backyard flock, they’re an easy way to offer hens a protein-rich snack, they can also be offered to wild birds or used as feed for reptiles. The product is intended for animal consumption, not for people. After opening, reseal the bag and store it in a dry area. The stated shelf life is 2 years.

What stands out

Black soldier fly larvae are naturally rich in protein and calcium. The product lists a protein content of 42%-45% and claims at least 85 times more calcium than dried mealworms. That makes the comparison useful for keepers choosing between these two dried insect treats, especially when calcium content is a priority. The listed benefits include supporting egg production, eggshell quality, feather growth, and overall flock health, these are nutritional support claims, not guaranteed results.

The ingredients are described as 100% natural and non-GMO, with no additives or preservatives. Dried larvae also offer a convenient alternative to feeding live worms, without changing the treat’s insect-based appeal. Buyers often report that their chickens readily eat them. Feedback on the smell varies, so individual impressions differ.

Worth noting

The 5-pound package is designed for ongoing feeding rather than a small, occasional sample. Its resealable zipper bag makes it practical to open for a feeding and close again for storage. The larvae are listed for poultry, wild birds, ducks, and reptiles, as well as other small animals, choose treats suited to the animals in your care and keep their usual diet as the foundation. For a simple backyard scenario, a keeper can portion some into a treat dish for hens and store the rest sealed in a dry place for later.

Buying verdict

SANSECT BSFL-5 is a practical pick for poultry keepers and animal owners looking for dried insect treats in a larger package.
