OHNAME Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae 10 lb

Highlights

When your flock needs a little variety beyond its regular ration, dried black soldier fly larvae offer a protein-rich treat that can also add calcium. OHNAME’s bag is labeled 10 lb, with 43% protein and 4% calcium—details that may appeal to backyard chicken keepers, especially those caring for laying hens. The product is also described for ducks, so it has a broader use than a chicken-only snack. From the way it is set up, though, this is a supplemental treat, not a clearly identified complete feed.

The protein content is positioned as support for growth and feather regrowth, including during molting. Calcium is a relevant point for egg-laying flocks, but the listing’s nutritional claims don’t guarantee a particular result for every bird. Keep in mind that the product information here does not specify feeding amounts or a full nutritional profile, so it should not replace a balanced poultry ration.

Best use cases

This format makes sense for keepers who want a dried, animal-based treat to offer chickens or ducks alongside their usual feed. For example, you could offer some when you let the flock out to forage, or use it as an occasional treat during a molt. It is also worth considering if you specifically want a treat that lists both protein and calcium, rather than a basic snack with no stated nutritional figures.

It suits you if you’re raising backyard birds and want a straightforward supplement for a mixed flock. Not the best choice if you need a complete feed, a precisely portioned product, or a detailed feeding plan—the supplied information doesn’t provide those details. The listing also describes the larvae as naturally containing chitin and presents them as sustainably sourced, but gives no further sourcing or processing specifics to assess.

Tips for day-to-day use

Keep the larvae as an addition to the flock’s normal diet rather than treating the protein or calcium figures as a reason to make them the main food. A practical moment might be offering some as a treat while checking the coop or gathering eggs, that keeps the product in the role it is sold for without relying on it to meet every dietary need. Follow any feeding directions on the package, since none are included in the product details provided here.

If you’re comparing this with a more basic treat, the listed 43% protein and 4% calcium give you specific numbers to weigh. A more demanding purchase—such as a feed chosen to provide a complete, carefully defined diet—calls for nutritional and feeding information that this listing does not supply.

Questions before you buy

Is this a complete chicken feed? The product is presented as dried larvae and a treat, not as a complete ration. Keep the flock’s regular feed as its dietary foundation.

Can ducks have it too? Yes. The product description names both chickens and ducks as intended birds.

What nutritional figures are listed? The product name states 4% calcium, and the description lists 43% protein. Those figures help with comparison, but they do not provide a full nutritional profile.

Is it worth it?

This OHNAME treat is worth considering if you want dried black soldier fly larvae in a larger bag and value the stated protein and calcium figures for your chickens or ducks. Its appeal is specific: a supplemental treat with listed nutrients, rather than a general-purpose feed. The missing feeding guidance and fuller nutrition details matter, especially if you’re buying for birds with particular dietary needs. If those details are essential to your decision, choose a product whose feeding instructions and complete nutritional information are available, if you simply want a protein-rich treat to offer alongside regular feed, this one fits that narrower purpose.
