Practical tips

The film’s premise gives the horror a personal thread: the group’s weekly storytelling is tied to a secret from their past, and the consequences unfold as its members begin to die mysteriously. That makes this a useful choice for an evening when you want a feature-length ghost story built around atmosphere, a close-knit group and an unfolding mystery. Rather than centring on a creature-led premise, it draws its tension from the Chowder Society’s history and the threat entering its members’ lives.

The DVD is presented in NTSC format, so use a DVD player and display set-up that support DVD-Video NTSC. English is the listed language, with French and Spanish subtitles available for following the story. With a runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes, it suits a full movie-night slot. The single-disc format also makes it straightforward to add to a DVD collection focused on horror and supernatural stories.

In the box

This is a one-disc DVD release of Ghost Story. The disc presents the film in colour and includes French and Spanish subtitles, giving viewers a choice of on-screen text while the listed language remains English. Its compact physical format is suited to keeping with a home movie collection for another viewing or a shared horror-film night.

Should you buy it?

Choose Ghost Story if you want a classic-cast horror film where the supernatural threat is linked to a group’s buried past. The combination of a New England setting, the Chowder Society’s storytelling tradition and a mystery that turns against its members gives the film a clear identity within the genre. Its English-language presentation, French and Spanish subtitles, and single-disc DVD format make it a practical fit for viewers collecting horror on DVD or planning a feature-length supernatural movie night.
