Convoy – Restored Edition Blu-ray with 4K-Scanned HD Master and Bonus Features

A new HD master made from a 4K scan of the original camera negative gives this restored Blu-ray a presentation centered on Sam Peckinpah’s trucking epic. The story follows Rubber Duck as a feud with a sheriff brings truckers together in a convoy across Arizona. Extensive bonus features add film history and production context alongside the movie.

Technical overview

Presented on Blu-ray, Convoy runs 1 hour and 51 minutes and is rated PG. The edition includes a new HD master from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative, plus 5.1 surround and lossless 2.0 audio. Optional English subtitles provide another way to follow the dialogue.

The extras make this more than a straightforward movie disc. Three audio commentaries bring perspectives from filmmaker and historian Steve Mitchell, Peckinpah historians Paul Seydor, Garner Simmons and Nick Redman, and Peckinpah scholar Mike Siegel. Viewers also get the documentary Sam’s Trucker Movie, a video essay, deleted scenes illustrated with rare photos, and featurettes covering the Duck trucks and the film’s cameos and inside jokes. Promotional materials, a selection of color stills, more than 1,000 production stills, the theatrical trailer and radio spots round out the collection.

For shoppers choosing between a movie-only disc and an edition with substantial companion material, this release offers several ways to explore the film beyond the main feature. The commentaries and documentary suit a focused watch, while the stills and promotional materials make for a deeper look at its production and release.

Practical tips

This is a Blu-ray edition, so choose a Blu-ray playback setup for the disc. The available audio options are 5.1 surround and lossless 2.0, and English subtitles are optional. Those choices make it easier to tailor a viewing to a surround system or a simpler stereo setup without changing the film’s original format.

The story’s appeal comes from its road-movie momentum: Rubber Duck uses Citizen Band radio to unite fellow drivers as their convoy heads toward the Mexican border. That combination of trucking, action and a growing clash with the law gives the film a clear fit for a movie night built around classic American action and adventure.

Who it’s for

Convoy – Restored Edition is a strong match for viewers drawn to Sam Peckinpah’s films, trucking stories and ensemble casts. Kris Kristofferson leads as Rubber Duck, alongside Ali MacGraw, Ernest Borgnine and Burt Young. Its Arizona highway setting and convoy-at-the-center premise also make it a natural choice for fans of road movies and action stories where a personal feud escalates into a larger confrontation.

The bonus material will be especially relevant to collectors and film enthusiasts who want more than the feature itself. The multiple commentaries, documentary, video essay and extensive still collections offer different ways to spend time with the film. Customer comments also describe it as an entertaining trucking classic and praise its cast, making the movie’s story and performances central reasons it continues to attract fans.
