MINIONS 59360 Monster Search Playset with Spellbook Reveal
Product description
Some play sessions call for character-led adventures, others are all about the excitement of discovering what happens next. The MINIONS Monster Search Playset brings both together in a reveal-and-play adventure inspired by Illumination’s Minions and Monsters.
Pour the spellbook contents into the playset to awaken the hidden monster. Add water to the spellbook first, then watch to see which creature appears.
Goomi and James Minion are ready to set off on a quest, while the surprise monster could be Howard or Philip. The reveal gives children a playful starting point for their own monster-search stories.
Key takeaways
This playset centres on a simple, hands-on reveal: prepare the spellbook with water, then pour its contents into the mountain playset to bring the hidden monster to life. The surprise keeps the creature’s identity part of the fun, with Howard and Philip as possible discoveries.
Goomi and James Minion provide familiar characters for the adventure, while the bright colours, textured surfaces and expressive details help make the scene engaging for imaginative play. The set includes three figures, an experimentation set, instructions and the playset. The experimentation set is for single use, so the reveal activity is designed as a special moment within the wider storytelling play.
Everyday use
For a child who enjoys making up stories, the reveal can set the scene for a quest: Goomi and James search the mountain, uncover a monster and decide what happens next. After the surprise, the figures and playset give the adventure a natural route into role-play, with the monster’s appearance helping spark new ideas.
This is a reveal-led choice rather than a set focused only on arranging figures. It suits play sessions where a small activity can provide a story prompt, while the characters offer a way to continue the fun once the hidden creature has appeared. The manufacturer recommends the playset for ages 4–12, making it a character-based option for children in that age range who enjoy monster adventures.
Practical tips
Add water to the spellbook as directed, then pour its contents into the playset to trigger the reveal. Keeping the steps in that order makes the central activity clear and gives children a chance to anticipate which monster will emerge. The instructions are supplied in the set.
No assembly is required, so the playset can move straight into the planned adventure. As the experimentation set is for single use, it makes sense to save the reveal for a play session when there is time to enjoy the surprise and build a story around it afterwards.

Final verdict
For children who like a bit of mystery alongside character play, MINIONS Monster Search combines a one-time monster reveal with figures and a setting for continued storytelling. It is a fitting pick for a Minions-inspired quest where the fun starts with discovering who is hiding in the mountain and carries on through imaginative play.
