Learning Resources HM96094-UK Numberblocks Express Train Maths Set, 10 Activities

Children ready to explore counting and early number skills can build and play with the Numberblocks Express Train, using MathLink cubes to make the characters One to Five.

For hands-on maths practice, the set pairs construction with activity cards. For imaginative train play, the finished build gives children a setting to extend the story.

It is based on the Numberblocks Express episode, so children can also follow the activities while watching and connect screen content with practical play.

Everyday use

Children use the MathLink cubes in Numberblocks colours to build numbers One to Five and put together the Express Train. The activity cards then guide them through tasks involving counting, addition and subtraction, giving the set a clear learning purpose as well as room for open-ended play.

At home, a child can build the train, work through a card and then carry the play on with the cargo pieces. The activities offer a practical way to introduce number ideas through handling and arranging pieces, rather than relying only on a screen or a worksheet. In a classroom, the same combination of building and guided tasks can support playful maths practice, the set is also designed to be used alongside the Numberblocks Express episode.

Buyer feedback often highlights the educational value, number recognition, counting and ease of use, with some also appreciating the value for money. Comments on durability are mixed, including a report of stickers coming loose, so feedback is not uniform on that point.

What you get

The set includes 21 MathLink cubes, five numberlings, 30 train parts and five cargo pieces, along with a sticker sheet. For guided play, there are five double-sided activity cards, a stand and a multilingual activity guide. The cards provide 10 maths activities, giving children a route from building the characters to practising early number operations.

Before you decide

Does the set need batteries? No. It is manually operated and does not require batteries, so play is based around building and using the pieces.

Is assembly required? No assembly is required. Children can use the parts to build the train and Numberblocks as part of the play.

Can the activities be used with the Numberblocks Express episode? Yes. The set is based on the episode, and children can do the activities while watching to link the number play with the story on screen.

Should you buy it?

This set suits families and early-learning settings looking for a hands-on way to bring counting and basic addition and subtraction into play. The combination of MathLink building pieces, a recognisable Numberblocks theme and guided card activities makes it especially useful when children benefit from moving between structured tasks and imaginative train play.
