Logitech M196 Compact Bluetooth Mouse, Rose, Ambidextrous Design

For laptop and tablet users who want a compact mouse that connects without taking up a USB port, the Logitech M196 uses Bluetooth for a quick, receiver-free setup. Its Rose finish and lightweight build make it easy to carry between home, work and study spaces, while the ambidextrous shape suits either hand.

Choose it for portable, everyday cursor control, or choose a larger desktop mouse when a fixed workstation is your main priority. The M196 brings together a travel-friendly size, optical tracking and line-by-line scrolling for everyday navigation.

How to use it

Pair the M196 with a compatible device over Bluetooth and use it without a USB receiver. It works with Apple, Windows and Chromebook devices, as well as systems running Linux, making it a practical companion for a laptop or tablet used across different settings. Its optical tracking and controlled scrolling help with tasks such as moving through documents, browsing webpages and selecting items on screen. The stated compatibility includes Windows 7 and macOS, with Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus listed as the minimum Linux operating system version.

At a shared desk, its ambidextrous shape lets you position it comfortably for left- or right-handed use. The compact, lightweight design also makes it straightforward to pack when you move between classes, meetings or work locations. Quiet clicks keep everyday interaction unobtrusive, whether you are working in a quiet room or using a laptop away from your desk.

Why it makes sense

The M196 focuses on useful features for mobile computing: Bluetooth connectivity avoids occupying a USB port, and its small form is easy to slip into a bag. For Rose, the plastic parts contain 66% certified post-consumer recycled plastic, excluding the printed wiring assembly and packaging. That gives the colour variant a documented recycled-material feature alongside its practical design.

A single included AA battery powers the mouse, with a stated battery life of up to 12 months, an auto-sleep feature helps extend use between battery changes. Battery life varies with use conditions. Optical tracking and line-by-line scrolling support precise, controlled navigation, so the mouse can handle routine tasks such as editing a document or moving through a spreadsheet without relying on a laptop’s touchpad.

Worth noting

Buyers often highlight the straightforward Bluetooth connection, smooth movement and portable size. The Rose appearance is also appreciated. These impressions complement the product’s compact design and receiver-free pairing, while the documented features remain the guide to its capabilities.

The M196 weighs 75.12 g and has a matte plastic finish. Its modest footprint suits a carry-with-you setup, while the ambidextrous shape makes it easy to share between left- and right-handed users. If your priority is a mouse you can keep with a laptop rather than a larger model intended to stay at one desk, these details make the M196 a purposeful fit.

When it makes sense

You’ll like it if you want a portable Bluetooth mouse for daily laptop or tablet use, with no receiver to plug in and no need to reserve a USB port. It is also a sensible choice when a single mouse needs to work for either hand or move between compatible Apple, Windows, Chromebook and Linux devices.

For a commute, a study session or a flexible workday, the compact Rose M196 pairs wireless convenience with optical tracking, controlled scrolling and a long stated battery life. It keeps everyday navigation simple while travelling, and its ambidextrous design makes it useful across different users and workspaces.
