Everyday compatibility
This DVD is presented in NTSC format, with three audio-language options for choosing how to watch. English and Spanish subtitles are available, while the French audio option provides another way to enjoy the film. The Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks offer a multichannel audio format for a compatible home setup, language options and subtitles can help tailor a screening to different viewing preferences.
The film stars Branagh alongside Emma Laird, Jamie Dornan, Kelly Reilly, Kyle Allen and Michelle Yeoh. That ensemble, combined with the Poirot mystery, makes this release suited to a shared watch where viewers can follow the investigation together. It offers a different kind of evening from a light comedy or a quick standalone action film: the focus here is a murder case, a séance and a detective working through a sinister setting.
Best use cases
Choose this film for a mystery night built around a classic detective figure and an atmospheric case. Poirot’s reluctant attendance at the séance sets the investigation in motion, and the murder gives the story its central question. Viewers who enjoy following clues and suspects can settle in for the feature-length runtime, while the English, French and Spanish audio makes it easier to choose a preferred language for the screening.
Viewer feedback highlights Branagh’s portrayal of Poirot, the ensemble cast and the twists in the story. Reactions to the entertainment value and production are mixed, so the film is best suited to viewers drawn to this particular, darker Poirot mystery rather than those seeking a uniformly fast-paced watch.
Should you buy it?
A solid pick if you want a physical DVD of Kenneth Branagh’s Poirot in a postwar Venice mystery, with multilingual audio and a séance-led plot. It suits viewers looking for an atmospheric whodunit to watch at home, especially those who enjoy seeing Poirot investigate a case where the setting is as shadowed as the crime itself.
