Burial Ground Blu-ray: Italian Zombie Horror, 2K Scan and Bonus Features

For a familiar zombie story, atmosphere may be the main draw, for something stranger, Burial Ground brings Italian cult horror to the screen. Set at a cursed country estate, the film centres on guests, undead Etruscans and an unsettling mother-and-son relationship. This Blu-ray presents the film with a 2K scan and restoration from a 35mm print.

Getting the most from it

Plan it for a horror night where eerie setting and unconventional cult-film mood matter as much as the zombie premise. The estate, its visitors and the returning dead give the story a contained setting, while the mother and her disturbing young son add another unsettling thread. At 1 hour and 25 minutes, it makes a focused feature-length pick for viewers exploring Italian horror or adding a distinctive zombie title to a physical collection.

The disc also offers material to explore after the film, including a featurette on the historic house location, a festival Q&A with Peter Bark, and interviews with Simone Mattioli, producer Gabriele Crisanti and actor Mariangela Giordano. Deleted extended scenes and the theatrical trailer round out the listed extras, giving fans more context around the film and its cast.

Pros

The appeal here is its particular blend of zombie horror, an isolated estate and an offbeat family dynamic, rather than a conventional contemporary take on the genre. Buyers often highlight the film’s singular cult-horror character, the picture presentation and the bonus material. Opinions are more divided on how entertaining the film is and on the appearance of its effects, so its strongest fit is for viewers who actively enjoy unusual, gritty horror and the distinctive style of Italian genre cinema.
