The Boxtrolls 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos and Bonus Features
Product description
The 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray format makes this edition a fit for viewers who want the film alongside a separate Blu-ray copy. The animated story follows Eggs, a boy raised by the underground Boxtrolls, as he and Winnie try to protect them from Archibald Snatcher. The release also includes a 4K restoration and a collection of production extras, so it offers more to explore than the feature alone.
At 1 hour and 36 minutes, it suits a family movie night or a shorter feature-length viewing. Its offbeat creatures and conflict give it a distinctive tone rather than a straightforward, conventional kids’ adventure.
What stands out
The appeal here is both the unusual story and the material around it. Eggs discovers he is human, while the people of Cheesebridge fear the Boxtrolls, the plot turns on whether he and Winnie can change that and save his adoptive family. The cast includes Ben Kingsley, Elle Fanning, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Nick Frost, Toni Collette, and Tracy Morgan.
The extras make this release more appealing to viewers interested in how the film was made. They include a feature-length storyboard presentation, character and concept art galleries, director commentary, original featurettes, and two “Inside LAIKA” pieces covering the characters and puppets. A “Dare to Be Square” making-of feature and a foreword by Animation Magazine editor-in-chief Ramin Zahed are also listed. If you’re choosing between a movie-only copy and a release with behind-the-scenes material, which would better suit your next watch? This set gives fans of production extras more to revisit.
Buyer reactions are generally positive about the animation, story, and family viewing appeal, with some describing its visual style as grotesque yet beautiful. Opinions on how engaging it is are mixed, however, and some viewers find it boring. That makes its quirky tone worth considering if your household prefers more conventional animated stories.

Buying verdict
A solid pick if you want The Boxtrolls in a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray edition and value its animation, unusual story, and production extras. It’s not for you if you’re looking specifically for a conventional, familiar family-film tone, buyer reactions suggest the film’s quirky approach does not work for everyone. For viewers drawn to stop-motion-style filmmaking and behind-the-scenes material, this edition has more to offer than the feature by itself.
