LC401XL Compatible Ink Cartridges

The four-color LC401XL set includes black, cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges, so you can replace a color that runs out or refresh the full set without buying each color separately. It’s a non-OEM option for specific Brother inkjet printers, with stated page yields that give you a rough basis for comparing cartridge capacity.

The listed yield is up to 560 pages for black and 510 pages for each color cartridge at 5% coverage. Actual results depend on what you print, pages with more ink coverage can use ink faster.

Best use cases

This pack is aimed at owners of the listed Brother MFC-J printers who need all four standard ink colors in one purchase. It can make sense for everyday documents, schoolwork, forms, and occasional color graphics, especially if you prefer keeping replacement colors on hand rather than ordering one at a time. Picture printing with broad areas of saturated color is a different workload from the stated 5% coverage, so the yield figures shouldn’t be treated as a promise for every print job.

The compatible models named in the listing are MFC-J1010DW, MFC-J1012DW, MFC-J1170DW, and MFC-J1800DW, along with MFC-J1010, MFC-J1012, MFC-J1170, and MFC-J1800. Match the full model number on your printer before choosing this set, a similar-looking model name alone isn’t enough to establish compatibility.

Installation has a couple of details worth knowing. The seller’s instructions say not to remove or touch the chip. If the printer displays a non-original cartridge message, the instructions say to select OK or Next. For low-ink, empty, or replace-cartridge prompts, they advise removing and reinstalling the cartridge several times. Those steps may help with the prompts described, but the listing does not establish that every printer will respond the same way.

Where it shines

The practical advantage is having the four colors together, rather than sourcing replacements separately. If black runs low while you still have color ink, the spare colors can stay available until needed, if you use color regularly, the set covers the complete cartridge lineup. You’ll appreciate it if you want a non-OEM replacement set for one of the specifically listed printers and are comfortable following cartridge setup prompts.

The trade-off is that these are explicitly not original Brother cartridges. A buyer who wants OEM supplies, or who would rather replace only an exhausted color, may prefer a different purchasing approach. The listing also gives yield figures at a defined 5% coverage level, not a guarantee of how many pages your own mix of text and images will produce. On the spec sheet, that makes the numbers useful for comparison, but not a substitute for your printing habits.

Should you buy it?

This set is worth considering when your printer is one of the listed models and you want black plus all three colors in a single compatible pack. It may not suit you if you require OEM cartridges, have a printer model not named here, or need a firm page count for graphics-heavy work. Before buying, weigh the convenience of having every color together against the non-OEM status and the possibility that your printer may show the setup or ink prompts described in the instructions.
