HGD Natural Fire Starters, 160 Mini Wood Squares for Grills and Fireplaces

For a charcoal grill, campfire, or fireplace, these HGD fire starters offer a compact way to get an ignition source going. The mini squares are made from pine wood shavings and wax, with a natural wood composition suited to a range of fire-starting tasks.

Use them with charcoal, wood stoves, fire pits, smokers, or a chimney starter. Their small square format makes them easy to keep with camping and grilling supplies.

They’re also described as weather-resistant and able to burn for about six minutes in damp conditions, offering a practical option when outdoor plans meet wet weather.

Technical details

• Material: Pine wood shavings and wax
• Format: Mini squares
• Quantity: 160
• Damp-condition burn time: About six minutes

The natural wood and wax construction is intended for starting fires, not flavoring food. That makes these starters useful for preparing a grill or smoker without adding a flavoring component. Their stated damp-condition burn time also gives campers and backyard cooks a specific point of reference when choosing starters for outdoor use.

Everyday use

For a backyard cookout, place a square with the charcoal setup to help start the fire, at a campsite, keep the starters among your fire-pit supplies for use with a campfire. They’re also suited to fireplaces, wood stoves, pizza ovens, and other listed fire-starting applications. Do you want one starter format for both cooking fires and general fires around the home or campsite? These squares are designed for that range of uses.

A separate fire-starting approach is to rely on loose tinder and kindling alone. These preformed squares provide a ready-made starter instead, which can simplify packing and setup for camping or grilling. They can also be used with a charcoal chimney, bringing the same starter format to a common charcoal-lighting setup.

Customer feedback highlights effectiveness, ease of use, and versatility for campfires, fire pits, and grills. Some buyers also mention using them with wet wood. Opinions are more mixed on burn time and durability, so the reported experiences vary, the product description gives the damp-condition burn time as about six minutes.

Final verdict

HGD fire starters make sense for people who want a natural wood-and-wax starter for several kinds of fires rather than a product focused only on charcoal grilling.
