936XL Ink Cartridges 4-Pack

Technical details

This four-cartridge 936XL/936 set includes one black cartridge and one each in cyan, magenta, and yellow. The listed page yields are up to 2,500 pages for black and 1,650 pages for each color cartridge, based on 5% coverage on A4 paper, according to the maker. Actual output will depend on what you print, pages with large areas of color or heavy graphics may use ink faster than text-heavy documents.

These are compatible, non-OEM cartridges, not HP-branded replacements. The listing describes them as intended for clear documents and vivid color, but it doesn’t provide independent print-quality results. For a small office printing reports, forms, and occasional color charts, the four-color set covers the basic replacement needs without requiring separate purchases for each cartridge.

Compatibility & requirements

The listed printer families include HP OfficeJet Pro 9125, 9135, 9720, 9730, 9110, 9130, and 9120, along with OfficeJet 9122. The listing also names e-series versions such as the 9125e, 9135e, 9720e, and 9730e. Check the exact printer model before ordering rather than relying on a similar model number.

There’s an important restriction for e-series printers: the cartridges are described as compatible only with printers that have never enrolled in and paid for HP+ or Instant Ink services. The listing also warns that automatic firmware updates may cause recognition issues and recommends cleaning the printhead after installation. If you depend on automatic updates or want an OEM cartridge, this set may not suit your setup.

Usage tips

Install the cartridges as a complete black-and-color set, then follow the printer’s prompts and clean the printhead if needed. For example, if a report prints in black every day but a few charts need color, the separate cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges let you replace a color as it runs out instead of treating the pack as one combined color cartridge. Keep in mind that the stated yields are estimates at low page coverage, not a promise for every print job.

Questions before you buy

What comes in the pack? One black, one cyan, one magenta, and one yellow 936XL cartridge.

Are these original HP cartridges? No. They’re listed as compatible, non-OEM replacements.

Will they work with an HP+ printer? The listing limits e-series compatibility to printers that have never enrolled in and paid for HP+ or Instant Ink services. Check your printer’s service history if that applies to you.

When it makes sense

It makes sense if your exact printer is on the compatibility list, you need all four ink colors, and you’re comfortable using a compatible rather than OEM cartridge. That’s a different buying approach from sticking with original cartridges for a more standardized replacement choice. Not the best choice if your e-series printer has used HP+ or Instant Ink, or if firmware recognition concerns make you unwilling to manage update settings. For occasional color alongside routine office documents, the pack’s mix of one black and three separate colors is the practical detail to weigh against those restrictions.
