Product description
Bring a story-driven movie night to the screen with Kubo and the Two Strings, an animated adventure about a young storyteller whose magical origami brings him face to face with a vengeful spirit. This edition pairs a 4K Ultra HD presentation with a Blu-ray disc and includes a 4K restoration, giving fans a home-video format that suits both a focused first viewing and repeat visits to Kubo’s world.
Kubo’s quest to uncover the mystery of his samurai father and protect his mother unfolds alongside Monkey and Beetle, companions who help him face the dangers ahead. The cast includes Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, and Art Parkinson.
Usage tips
This set is a good fit for a movie night built around a complete, self-contained adventure rather than a short animated feature: the runtime is 1 hour and 42 minutes. Its mix of fantasy, family storytelling, and dramatic stakes gives viewers plenty to follow, while the origami-centered premise makes the film’s magical world distinctive.
The edition is listed as 4K Ultra HD plus Blu-ray, with English, French, and Spanish subtitles. That range can help when choosing how to watch with different language preferences. The film is rated NR, and its story has moments of intensity, buyers’ reactions to those scenes vary, so families can decide whether the adventure suits the viewers joining them.
What you’ll notice day to day
Kubo tells stories through origami and the music of his magical shamisen, then must use his abilities on a quest tied to his family and his father’s legacy. Monkey serves as a protective guide, while Beetle vows to help Kubo on the journey. These character relationships give the adventure an emotional thread alongside its fantasy action.
What makes this edition especially appealing for a return viewing? The bonus materials offer a closer look at how the film was made, including rare test footage, feature-length storyboards, character and concept art, and behind-the-scenes photo galleries. There are also featurettes, Kubo’s Journey, an audio commentary with director and producer Travis Knight, and an audio descriptive track.
Buyers often highlight the animation, visuals, characters, and touching story, and some say the film holds their attention on repeat viewings. Their responses to the intensity are more mixed, particularly around scenes that may feel frightening to younger children. That combination makes it a story-led pick for viewers who enjoy imaginative animated films with a more dramatic edge.
