Citizen USA: A 50 State Roadtrip DVD Documentary, English, NTSC
Product description
Some documentaries follow a single public figure, Citizen USA: A 50 State Roadtrip takes a wider look at the people who become American citizens. Alexandra Pelosi travels to naturalization ceremonies in all 50 states and talks with newly naturalized citizens about choosing the United States as home. The result is a documentary centered on personal stories and the naturalization process.
Everyday use
This DVD suits a focused viewing session for anyone interested in citizenship, immigration, and the varied experiences behind becoming a U.S. citizen. At 52 minutes, it offers a concise documentary format for an evening at home, a classroom discussion, or a group conversation about American identity. Its English-language presentation makes it accessible to viewers who want to follow the interviews and stories in their original language.
The film opens with the naturalization ceremony of Pelosi’s Dutch-born husband, Michiel Vos, then broadens its perspective through ceremonies around the country. That structure connects one family’s milestone with the experiences of new citizens in different states. For a viewer choosing between a narrowly focused profile and a broader civic documentary, this film’s nationwide journey puts the naturalization process and individual perspectives at the center.
What stands out
Rather than treating citizenship as an abstract topic, the documentary builds its subject around meetings with newly naturalized Americans and their reasons for making the United States home. Pelosi attends ceremonies across all 50 states, giving the film a clear geographic framework while keeping the focus on people’s stories. The journey makes the subject approachable for viewers interested in how a major civic milestone is experienced by individuals and families.
Interviews with first-generation Americans add perspectives from well-known voices, including Madeleine Albright, Arianna Huffington, Henry Kissinger, and Gene Simmons. These conversations complement the accounts of new citizens and give viewers more than one point of entry into the subject. The documentary can therefore work for personal viewing as well as for a discussion about immigration, citizenship, or contemporary American life.
