SANDISK Extreme Portable SSD SDSSDE31-500G-G25, 500GB USB-C Drive

Getting the most from it

If you need portable storage for moving large files between compatible devices, this 500GB SSD keeps your files close at hand without the bulk of a traditional external drive. Its pocket-sized design suits a work bag or everyday carry.

Use it to transfer multimedia, business files, personal documents or AI edits and clips. USB-C connectivity lets you plug in and get started, while read speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s help speed up file transfers. Actual performance depends on the host device and conditions, and write speeds are lower.

It suits a workflow built around carrying and moving active files. A traditional portable hard drive is another approach for people comparing external storage, this SANDISK drive emphasizes pocket-sized portability, fast reads and resistance to drops.

Pros

The solid-state design has no moving parts and is rated for drop protection from up to 2 metres, adding practical reassurance when the drive travels between home, work and class. Its compact form also makes it easy to store alongside a laptop or tablet rather than leave connected to a desk.

Buyers often highlight compatibility, everyday functionality and speed. Feedback about value is more varied, so the most useful way to assess it is against your own need for 500GB of portable storage and quick file access.

Highlights

The drive provides 500GB of storage in a black finish and connects over USB-C. It is listed for Mac and PC, as well as compatible laptops and tablets. The package includes a USB cable and quick start guide, so you have the basic items for getting started with a compatible device.

For a practical example, keep current project files on the SSD, connect it when it is time to move or access them, then tuck it away again. The read-speed figure is an upper limit rather than a guaranteed transfer rate: the connected device and usage conditions can affect results. The manufacturer also lists a 3-year limited warranty.
