Cobra CCBP29LX01 29LX AM/FM CB Radio with NOAA Alerts and 4-Color LCD

The selectable 4-color LCD makes the Cobra 29LX easier to read in different lighting, while its AM/FM modes give you two ways to communicate on the road.

Automatic weather scanning tunes to a clear NOAA weather channel, and the alert system can notify you of threatening weather even when the CB is turned off.

Radio Check diagnostics help you monitor RF output, antenna condition, and vehicle battery voltage from the radio. The built-in SWR meter also supports antenna calibration.

Tech summary

The 29LX combines 40 CB channels with AM/FM operation, weather monitoring, and driver-focused display features. Its clock and alarm add a handy timekeeping function, while channel scanning helps you move through saved channels or search for active traffic. Instant access to channels 9 and 19 supports quick selection when those channels are needed.

• Display: Selectable red, green, blue, or amber LCD with day and night settings
• Weather: Access to 10 NOAA weather channels, automatic scan, and alert tone
• Diagnostics: Radio Check for RF output, SWR, and vehicle battery voltage
• Dimensions: 9.25 x 7.25 x 2.25 inches
• Power: 12 volts

Compared with a radio limited to AM, dual-mode operation gives you access to both AM and FM communication. CB communication also provides an option that does not depend on cellular or satellite networks, useful when traveling through areas where cell service is limited or unavailable. Buyers highlight clear sound and the ability to receive local broadcasts through the NOAA scan, feedback on value is mixed.

Usage tips

Mount the transceiver within reach and connect a compatible antenna before operating it. The radio uses an SO-239 connector and works with an antenna that has a PL-259 coaxial cable, the antenna is purchased separately. Use the built-in SWR meter to calibrate the antenna system, then Radio Check to review radio and vehicle readings. The adjustable Dynamike control helps tune microphone output, and Delta Tune is available to clarify incoming signals.

For a cross-country drive, weather scan can search for a clear NOAA channel, while the alert tone provides a separate way to receive weather notices. Save frequently used CB channels for quicker access, and use the clock and alarm to keep track of driving time. A 4-pin front microphone connector supports in-dash or under-dash installation. For base-station use, pair the radio with an external power supply and an exterior antenna.

Box contents

The package includes the CB radio, a handheld microphone, DC power cord, microphone bracket, transceiver mounting bracket, and user manual. The microphone has a nine-foot cable, providing reach between the radio and the driver’s position during installation.

Should you buy it?

It makes sense if you want a fixed-mount CB radio that combines everyday AM/FM communication with NOAA weather monitoring and built-in setup diagnostics. The color-selectable display, channel scan, clock, and alarm add practical features for regular driving, while Radio Check and SWR calibration let you monitor key parts of the radio and antenna setup. For drivers who want communication independent of cell service alongside weather alerts in one unit, the 29LX is a capable fit for a vehicle installation or a base station with an external power supply and antenna.
