MOICO FRS Walkie-Talkies, 22 Channels

On a hike, at a campground, or while keeping a group together in a crowded place, a pair of radios can provide a direct way to stay in touch without relying on a phone conversation. These MOICO FRS walkie-talkies come as a two-radio set, with 22 channels and voice-activated transmission for hands-free use. Their compact design, belt clips, backlit screen, and built-in flashlight make them geared toward casual outings. The main trade-off is range: the advertised distance depends heavily on what lies between the radios.

Technical details

Each radio offers 22 FRS channels and 99 sets of CTCSS tones, also called privacy codes. Those settings create 2,178 channel-and-code combinations to help reduce the chance of hearing other conversations, they do not make communications private or encrypted. The radios can support one-to-one or one-to-more communication when units are set to the same channel and code.

The VOX feature activates transmission by voice, with three sensitivity levels for hands-free operation. A green backlit LCD helps with viewing the display in low light, while the built-in LED flashlight can serve as a small light source. The package includes two radios and a user manual, but AAA batteries are not included. The FCC ID listed for the product is 2ASV6-T5A.

Everyday compatibility

The stated range is up to 3 miles in open areas without obstructions. In cities or towns, the description gives a range of 0.6–1.2 miles, and buildings, vehicles, weather, and other obstacles can reduce it. That makes these more suitable for keeping nearby companions in contact than for dependable communication across a large or built-up area. On a campsite, for example, one person could stay near the picnic area while another walks to a nearby trail junction, but the terrain and obstacles will affect whether the signal reaches.

It suits you if you want a simple two-radio set for outdoor trips or family activities, and would rather use push-to-talk or VOX than keep calling. The detachable belt clip gives you a way to carry a radio without holding it. Not the best choice if you need a guaranteed range through buildings, during a voyage, or across changing terrain, the range figures are conditional, not a promise for every setting.

Usage tips

For the clearest chance of contact, choose the same channel and tone-code settings on both radios, then test them in the area where you plan to use them. Keep in mind that using the same channel alone may not be enough if the radios have different tone codes. VOX can be handy when your hands are occupied, but the three sensitivity settings are there for a reason: select one that works with the surrounding noise so ordinary sounds are less likely to trigger transmission. Carry AAA batteries separately, since none are included, and use the belt clip to keep the radio accessible rather than buried in a bag.

Questions before you buy

Are batteries included? No. The package lists two radios and a user manual, AAA batteries must be supplied separately.

Can more than two radios communicate? The product description says one-to-more communication is supported when radios use the same channel. It does not specify how many additional units can join.

Do the privacy codes make conversations private? No. They can help filter other conversations, but the listing does not describe encryption or confidential communication.

Is it worth it?

These MOICO radios make sense when the goal is basic group communication for nearby outdoor plans, with useful extras such as VOX, a backlit LCD, and a flashlight. They are less compelling for anyone choosing primarily by maximum distance: the open-area figure can fall substantially around buildings, vehicles, or other obstructions. Compared with a more demanding communication setup, this is a straightforward two-pack for casual coordination, provided you bring batteries and keep expectations realistic about coverage.
