SONGMICS Stefan Collection SYL20HV1 Adjustable Dumbbells, 20 kg with Barbell Link

A home workout that moves between arm exercises and shoulder presses can benefit from a set with adjustable plates rather than a single fixed-weight pair. This SONGMICS set has two dumbbell bars and a link bar for creating a basic barbell setup.

The total weight with accessories is 20 kg, with plates in several sizes to combine for different training stages. The plates have a plastic coating and concrete and sand filling, rather than being solid iron.

There is a useful range of exercises here, but the weight needs to be secured carefully. Some buyers report stability problems, including plates falling off, so that feedback deserves attention before choosing an adjustable set.

Best use cases

The adjustable plates make this set suitable for home or office workouts where a single pair of fixed dumbbells would offer less scope to change the load. The supplied weights can be combined for different training stages, while the connection bar lets you bring the two dumbbell bars together for basic barbell exercises. The product is described for training arms, shoulders, chest, back, abs and legs, so it can support a varied routine without requiring a separate barbell set.

For a practical session, you could set up the dumbbells for arm work, then use the connection bar for a basic barbell exercise. The bars have a non-slip grip, and four spinlocks are supplied to hold the plates in place. Buyers’ comments are positive about perceived quality and value, but stability draws criticism: some say the weights have fallen off, and one reports that the locking collars did not work properly. Those reports are not a substitute for product specifications, but they make secure fastening an important consideration during use.

What you get

The set includes the plates, two bars for dumbbell use, four spinlocks and a 20 cm link bar. Assembly and disassembly are described as straightforward, and tools are included. That modular layout is more adaptable than buying one fixed-weight pair, while still keeping the equipment focused on basic home strength training. The plates’ concrete and sand filling, with a PE plastic cover, is also a clear difference from solid iron weights.

It’s a good fit if you want adjustable weights and the option to form a basic barbell from the supplied parts. It might not be a great match if you want to avoid checking the collars and plate fit, given the stability concerns raised by some buyers.

Buying verdict

This is a flexible home set for someone who wants to vary the load and switch between dumbbell exercises and basic barbell movements. The included plates and link bar give it more versatility than a fixed pair, without suggesting it is a substitute for a more demanding or specialised barbell setup. The buyer feedback on weights slipping is the main point to weigh up: the set’s adjustability is useful, but reliable fastening matters just as much to a comfortable workout.
