Who it’s for
This dock suits laptop users who want to connect several devices and displays from one desktop hub, while keeping fast storage and wired networking close at hand. For example, a Windows laptop with Thunderbolt 5 can connect multiple external displays alongside USB peripherals, an SD or TF card and a 2.5GbE network connection. The M.2 slot adds a place for compatible NVMe storage, useful for working with large files or keeping backups accessible without a separate drive enclosure.
Compared with building a setup from separate USB hubs, card readers and storage enclosures, the U716 combines those connections in one dock. Buyers have praised its port selection and transfer speed, while feedback on reliability, connectivity and noise is mixed. Its wide mix of ports is particularly useful when a laptop regularly moves between a mobile setup and a more connected desk.
In the box
A 240W power adapter is included and must be connected to the dock’s DC port for operation. Seat the DC connector fully, with no gap. The dock does not support external chargers. The DisplayPort output does not support DP++, to connect an HDMI monitor, use an active DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable rather than a passive adapter.
Questions before you buy
How many external displays can it support? With a Thunderbolt 5 laptop on Windows, it supports dual 8K displays at 60Hz or triple 4K displays at 60Hz. On macOS, it supports two displays at 6K and 60Hz. The laptop’s Thunderbolt connection and operating system are part of the display setup.
Can I connect an HDMI monitor? Yes. Use an active DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable with the dock’s DisplayPort output, a passive DP-to-HDMI adapter will not work with this port.
Which M.2 drives fit the slot? The slot supports M.2 NVMe drives with M-Key or M&B-Key and capacities from 2TB to 8TB. Drives with heatsinks must be no more than 12 mm high and 24 mm wide. A new SSD needs to be formatted and partitioned before use.
Should you buy it?
Choose the UGREEN U716 if your Thunderbolt 5 or 4 laptop needs a single desk hub for multi-display work, fast wired networking and a broad set of peripheral connections. Its integrated M.2 NVMe slot and included 240W adapter make it a practical fit for a workspace that benefits from accessible storage and fewer separate connection devices.
