Logitech K585 wireless keyboard

Switching between a computer and a phone or tablet can turn a simple message into a fiddly interruption. The Logitech K585 brings those devices into one typing setup, with Easy Switch for moving between paired devices and a built-in cradle to keep a screen in view while you work.

Its compact layout still includes a full number pad, so it aims to save desk space without giving up number entry. The cradle holds a smartphone or a tablet up to 10 in. in landscape mode.

How it looks

The K585 has a slim profile and a graphite finish, with a layout designed to keep the number pad and media shortcuts close at hand. Picture replying to a message on your phone, then switching back to a computer to enter figures: the cradle can keep the mobile screen upright in landscape orientation, rather than leaving it flat beside the keyboard. Does a keyboard that can move between devices make sense for your routine? It will matter most if you regularly type on more than one of them.

Compared with a smaller keyboard that leaves off the number pad, this one suits spreadsheets and other number-heavy tasks better. In return, it is not a bare-minimum compact board, the built-in number pad takes up space, and the cradle is intended for landscape viewing rather than portrait use.

Pros

• Easy Switch lets you pair and alternate between multiple devices.
• Connects through Bluetooth or the included USB receiver, which uses 2.4GHz wireless.
• The full number pad, 12 FN keys and media shortcuts support everyday typing and quicker access to controls.
• The cradle holds a phone or a tablet up to 10 in. in landscape mode.
• Auto-sleep and a stated wireless range of up to 10m are useful details for a desk setup, the listing does not give a specific battery-life figure.

What I’d decide

It makes sense if you want one keyboard for computer work and occasional typing on a phone or tablet, especially when a number pad is part of your routine. The included receiver gives you a non-Bluetooth connection option for a Windows laptop or PC, while Bluetooth covers the listed mobile devices and other platforms. Better to avoid it if you need a tablet cradle for portrait reading, or if you want a stated battery-life estimate before choosing, neither is established by the supplied details. For a shared desk where switching screens and entering numbers both come up, the K585’s combination is more purposeful than choosing a smaller board just for its footprint.
