Hidden Kingdoms 29086783 Nature Documentary DVD, NTSC, 3-Hour Runtime

For viewers interested in nature and wildlife, Hidden Kingdoms brings small creatures to the centre of the story. It explores the challenges they face at a tiny scale, where raindrops and breezes can become major obstacles and survival calls for ingenious solutions.

This DVD-Video release runs for three hours and includes bonus features that take a closer look at how the programme was made.

Pros

The focus on little-known, small-scale wildlife gives this documentary a distinctive perspective: instead of centring on large animals, it invites viewers to consider the everyday challenges of much tinier creatures. That change in scale makes familiar elements of nature—rain, wind and the surrounding habitat—part of the story.

The three-hour runtime offers room for an extended viewing session, while the single-disc DVD format keeps the programme together in one place. For a relaxed evening at home or a nature-themed family viewing, its General Audience rating provides a useful guide to the intended audience. English audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1.

Worth noting

Alongside the main programme, the disc includes bonus material on the production process and selected scenes. Features include Mike Gunton Introduces Hidden Kingdoms, Creating the Shot: Compositing, Creating the Shot: The Grasshopper Mouse, Creating the Score, an extended scene featuring the sengi cleaning, and Storyboarding the Beetles. These extras add context for viewers curious about the work behind the finished documentary.

The release is DVD-Video in NTSC format. Choose it for a nature programme built around the lives and challenges of small creatures, rather than a wildlife collection focused primarily on larger animals. Its General Audience (G) rating and wildlife subject matter also make it a natural choice for a shared viewing session.

Tips for day-to-day use
