SHADEPLUS Clear Tarp 15MIL

Wind-driven rain can soak a small greenhouse or leave a balcony setup exposed, while an opaque cover blocks useful daylight. The SHADEPLUS clear tarp is designed to shield an area from rain and wind without fully closing off the light, making it a practical option for plant covers, chicken coops, or outdoor furniture. Its 10' x 12' size gives you a broad sheet to secure over a frame or railing. One small setup wrinkle: the film may arrive creased from compact packaging, and the maker says hot water can help flatten it.

Getting the most from it

Use the reinforced edges and grommets to attach the tarp to a suitable frame, railing, or support, cable ties and a fixing rope are included. For a balcony, for example, you could fasten one edge along the railing and tighten the rope across a larger span to help keep the cover in place. The built-in polypropylene rope along the edging and reinforced corners are intended to make those attachment points more durable than an unreinforced sheet.

The clear PVC construction is the key difference from a standard opaque tarp: it blocks rain and wind while allowing light through. The listed light transmittance is 111%, according to the maker. That makes the sheet relevant where plants need access to daylight, though it should not be treated as a substitute for a rigid greenhouse structure or a guarantee of specific growing results. If it arrives with folds, the maker recommends soaking the film in hot water to flatten it.

Why it’s worth it

This tarp combines a weather barrier with a see-through format, so you can cover plants, a chicken coop, patio furniture, or stored items without choosing a fully light-blocking cover. The PVC is listed as waterproof and tear-resistant, and the edging, reinforced corners, and aluminum-alloy grommets add useful attachment points. Cable ties and a fixing rope are part of the set, which means you have basic fastening options on hand rather than just a loose sheet.

The maker also lists resistance to winds up to 68 mph, UV-related aging, and temperatures down to -45°F. Treat those as stated product claims, not a reason to leave a loosely installed tarp unattended in severe weather. A broad sheet catches wind, so the support and how securely you fasten it still matter. If you prioritize keeping an area bright while covering it, this clear design has an advantage over opaque sheeting, if you prefer maximum privacy or want to block sunlight, an opaque cover is the more suitable approach.

The essentials

The product is a 15MIL PVC tarp measuring 10' x 12'. It is transparent, waterproof, and intended for indoor or outdoor covering. Its stated uses include greenhouses, chicken coops, balconies, carports, trucks, pools, furniture, wood, and outdoor tables and chairs. Reinforced edges, four strengthened corners, grommets, cable ties, and a fixing rope support installation, while the lightweight, foldable format is easier to store than a rigid cover.

One detail to keep in mind is the creasing that can result from compact packaging. This is flexible sheeting, not a solid panel, so it needs an appropriate structure and secure attachment to create a useful barrier. Worth considering if you need a light-transmitting cover for a garden or outdoor area. It’s not for you if you need a rigid enclosure, opaque shade, or a cover that works without being tied down.

When it makes sense

Choose this SHADEPLUS tarp when you want rain and wind protection but still need light to pass through, such as over a small growing area or along a balcony railing. It also suits covering outdoor items when visibility through the sheet is useful. Its included ties and rope help with setup, but the tarp’s performance depends on how it is supported and secured. For a permanent, rigid shelter or a privacy screen, a different type of cover will better match the job.
