Mahjong Tile Set, 1.2-Inch Tiles

For a game night at home, a visit with friends, or a trip where you want to bring your own set, this American Mahjong kit combines engraved pink tiles with a carrying bag and basic accessories. It includes 160 tiles, a manual, dice, a wind indicator, and chips, so there’s more here than a tile-only purchase. One practical detail matters before you choose it: racks are not included, and the set is intended for American Mahjong rather than Chinese rules.

Technical details

The tiles are made from melamine and each measures 1.2 x 0.9 x 0.59 inches. The set includes 36 Dots, 36 Bams, 36 Cracks, 12 Dragons, 16 Winds, 8 Flowers, 10 Jokers, and 6 blank spares. The engraved characters are intended to be easy to see during play, while the included bag keeps the pieces together for storage and transport. It measures 12.79 x 3.14 x 7.08 inches.

The package also lists a Mahjong manual, 3 dice, 1 wind indicator, and chips. It does not include racks, so factor that into the total setup if you don’t already have a compatible set. If you plan to use existing racks, check that they accommodate the tile dimensions, without that measurement, fit is uncertain.

Everyday compatibility

This set follows American Mahjong rules and gameplay. That makes it a better match for a group that plays the American version than for someone looking for a general-purpose set for different Mahjong traditions. The manual may help a newer player follow along, but the product details don’t describe the manual’s level of instruction or whether it includes reference material for every situation.

The carrying bag suits a simple routine: pack the tiles and accessories after a game, then take them to a gathering without carrying a loose box of pieces. It’s a portable setup, though the bag’s listed dimensions are worth keeping in mind if you want to store it in a particular cabinet or travel bag. It makes sense if you want an American Mahjong set with its own storage and already have racks, or are comfortable sourcing them separately. Not the best choice if you need racks in the package or want tiles for Chinese rules.

Usage tips

Before the first game, sort the tiles by suit and set aside the blank spares, dice, wind indicator, and chips so the table is ready to go. For a casual evening, the bag offers a straightforward way to bring the full set to a friend’s home, just make sure the group has racks available. After play, returning the accessories to the bag helps keep them with the tiles rather than scattered among other game supplies.

Questions before you buy

Does the set include racks? No. Racks are not listed among the included items.

Which Mahjong rules does it support? It is described as an American Mahjong set and is not suitable for Chinese rules.

What comes in the bag? The listed contents are 160 tiles, a manual, 3 dice, a wind indicator, and chips.

Final verdict

This set is worth considering when you specifically want American Mahjong tiles in a portable bag and can supply racks separately. The 160-piece assortment and included accessories make it a more complete starting point than buying tiles alone, but it isn’t a ready-to-play purchase for someone who needs racks included. Choose it for American-style games and easy transport, look elsewhere if your group plays Chinese rules or expects a rack-included kit.
