Mahjong Tile Set, 1.2-Inch Tiles

For a game night at home or a get-together where you want to bring your own set, this American Mahjong kit packs tiles and basic accessories into a carry bag. It includes 160 melamine tiles, a manual, dice, a wind indicator, and chips, so you have more than just the tiles to get started. The engraved characters are designed to be easy to read during play. One practical catch: racks are not included, so bring your own if you use them.

Technical details

The set contains 36 Dots, 36 Bams, 36 Cracks, 12 Dragons, 16 Winds, 8 Flowers, 10 Jokers, and 6 blank spare tiles. Each tile measures 1.2 x 0.9 x 0.5 inches and is made from melamine. The included bag measures 12.79 x 3.14 x 7.08 inches. It also holds the mahjong manual, 3 dice, 1 wind indicator, and chips. The maker says the melamine is intended to resist fading and discoloration with use, the listing does not provide details about the chips or their quantity.

What it works with

This set is made for American, also described as Western, Mahjong rules. It is not suitable for Chinese rules, so the rule set matters more than the general “Mahjong” label when choosing it. The manual is intended to help players learn the included game format, while the wind indicator and dice support play. If your regular game uses racks, you will need to supply those separately.

Usage tips

Before a game, sort the tiles by suit and category so it is easier to confirm that the full set is ready. For a casual evening, the bag gives you one place to carry the tiles and listed accessories, at the table, set aside the blank spares and arrange the tiles in a way that works for your group. The engraved markings can help when players need to identify tiles quickly, but the set does not include racks to hold them upright. If racks are part of your usual setup, factor that into what you need to bring.

It suits you if you want an American-rules set with a carrying bag and manual for home games, parties, or travel. You may want to skip it if you need Chinese-rules tiles or expect racks to be included. Compared with buying a more minimal tile-only set, this package adds several playing accessories and a guide, compared with a complete table setup, it leaves the racks to you.

Questions before you buy

Are racks included? No. The product description explicitly says they are not included.

Does it include a guide? Yes. A mahjong manual is listed among the included items.

Can it be used for Chinese Mahjong? No. The listing says it follows American Mahjong rules and is not suitable for Chinese rules.

Should you buy it?

Choose this set if your group plays American Mahjong and you want tiles, a manual, accessories, and a bag together. Its portable format makes sense when you carry a game between home and gatherings, and the engraved melamine tiles provide a clear, durable-looking setup according to the maker. The missing racks are the key limitation: if you rely on them, this is not a ready-to-play package without an additional purchase or your own set. For Chinese-rule play, choose a set specifically intended for that format instead.
