My Mahjong Trove American Mahjong Set, 1.2-inch Tiles

For a game night that might move from the dining table to a friend’s house, a set with its own carrying bag keeps the pieces together between sessions. My Mahjong Trove is an American Mahjong set with 160 engraved melamine tiles, a manual, dice, a wind indicator, and chips. The pink tiles give it a distinctive look, while the included guide can help players get oriented. One practical catch: racks are not included, so this is not a complete table setup if your group needs them.

Best use cases

This set is intended for American Mahjong, also described as Western Mahjong in the product listing. It’s suited to players who want the tiles and several game accessories in one portable package, whether they’re gathering at home or bringing a set to a party or another get-together. The carrying bag measures 12.79 x 3.14 x 7.08 inches, which gives you a specific size to compare with your storage space or travel plans.

Picture packing the tiles and dice into the bag after a game, then taking them along for the next gathering rather than storing loose pieces in separate containers. The guide may be useful when learning or refreshing the listed gameplay, but it doesn’t change the set’s rules focus: the product is not suitable for Chinese Mahjong rules. It’s a great fit if your group plays American Mahjong and already has racks or is comfortable playing without them. It’s not for you if you need racks included or want a set for Chinese rules.

Product specs

The set contains 160 tiles: 36 Dots, 36 Bams, 36 Cracks, 12 Dragons, 16 Winds, 8 Flowers, 10 Jokers, and 6 Blank Spares. Each tile measures 1.2 x 0.9 x 0.59 inches (30 x 22 x 15 mm) and is made of melamine, with engraved characters. The included accessories are a carrying bag, a Mahjong manual, 3 dice, 1 wind indicator, and chips. Racks are not included.

The bag has white prints, according to the listing, and is described as lightweight for storage and transport. Without having tried it, the clearest buying consideration is the combination of a full 160-tile assortment and a bag, balanced against the need to supply racks separately. If you’re comparing it with a simpler tile-only purchase, the guide and accessories may save you from sourcing those pieces one by one, if your priority is a ready-to-play setup with racks, this listing leaves that part to you.

Where it shines

The set’s strongest practical point is that its contents are spelled out, including the tile breakdown and the accessories. That makes it easier to judge whether it matches your group’s American Mahjong play rather than buying based on appearance alone. Engraved characters and the pink design add visual distinction, while melamine is the stated tile material. The listing says the tiles are designed to resist fading or discoloration, but it provides no care instructions or additional performance details, so avoid assuming more than the stated material and construction.

Would the included bag and manual make the set easier to bring to a casual gathering? They address portability and basic gameplay guidance, but the missing racks remain a meaningful limitation for players who rely on them. Check what your group already has before choosing this over a more complete setup.

Final verdict

Choose this set if you want 160 engraved tiles for American Mahjong, value a carrying bag and included accessories, and can provide your own racks. Its portable format makes sense for social play away from a permanent game table, and the guide is a useful inclusion for getting started. Pass if you play by Chinese rules, need racks in the box, or want product details beyond the listed tile and bag measurements before deciding.
