UGREEN 80789 USB 3.0 A-to-A Cable, 0.5 m Braided, 5Gbps

At 0.5 m, the UGREEN 80789 is a compact USB-A to USB-A cable for nearby devices. Its black braided design uses nylon and aluminium materials, making it a neat fit for a desk or entertainment unit.

It supports bidirectional data transfer at up to 5Gbps, as well as USB power between devices. That gives you a practical connection for compatible USB-A equipment without a long cable trailing across your workspace.

Choose this short format for a close connection between a computer and an external drive or dock. If your setup needs more reach, a longer cable is the more suitable approach.

Quick overview

This USB 3.0 cable has male USB-A connectors at both ends and is designed for data transfer. It is listed for use with devices such as an external hard drive enclosure with a USB-A port, a docking station, a laptop cooling pad, a hub, a printer, a camera or a TV. Check that the equipment you want to connect has the matching USB-A connection.

The 5Gbps transfer rate is useful when moving files between compatible devices, while backward compatibility with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 allows it to connect with those USB standards too. For everyday setups, its short length helps keep nearby equipment connected without excess cable on the desk.

How to use it

Connect one end to a USB-A port on each of the devices in your setup. For example, you could use it to link a computer with a compatible external drive enclosure for transferring files, or connect a USB-A dock to another suitable device. It can also serve in a desk arrangement with a cooling pad or hub, where the devices sit close together.

The cable supports both data transfer and USB power. The exact function depends on the equipment and ports involved, so use it for the connection those devices are designed to support. Its USB 3.0 specification also makes it a useful choice when you want a USB-A-to-USB-A cable that can work with older USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 connections.

Practical tips

Before connecting, match the cable’s USB-A plugs to the ports on your devices and position them within its 0.5 m reach. This is especially handy when an external drive, hub or other accessory sits beside a computer or TV. For a device kept further away, a longer cable format better suits the layout.

Buyers often praise the cable’s braided construction, durability and everyday functionality. Feedback on connectivity and length is more mixed, so choosing the right USB-A ports and a suitable cable reach for your particular setup helps make the connection more straightforward.

Is it worth it?

The UGREEN 80789 brings together a compact 0.5 m format, braided nylon-and-aluminium materials and USB 3.0 data transfer up to 5Gbps. It makes sense if you need a short USB-A-to-USB-A link for a compatible drive, dock, hub or other nearby equipment, and want backward compatibility with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 as well. For a tidy connection between devices positioned close together, its combination of speed, practical length and braided construction is the main appeal.
