Exploding Kittens Power Hungry Pets Card Game, 2–6 Players, 15 Minutes, German

The 10.7 x 16.2 centimetre box contains a card game made from paper, cardboard and plastic. Power Hungry Pets is built around quick decisions: you hold two cards, choose one to keep and play the other, with card values and effects shaping who comes out on top.

With a listed playing time of 15 minutes, it suits a short game between other activities rather than an evening built around one long session. The rules are in German, which is an important consideration if players need English-language instructions.

How to use it

Each player works with two cards and must decide which to retain and which to play. The cards have different values and can affect other players, so the choice is not simply about holding the highest number, the effect of the card you put down matters too. The winner is the player with the highest-value card in hand at the end.

That simple turn structure gives the group a tactical decision without requiring a long rules explanation, although the instructions supplied with this version are German. It could suit a family or small group looking for a compact card game to play in a short break. If the priority is a longer, more involved strategy session, this 15-minute format is aimed at a different sort of game night.

Strengths

The main appeal is the mix of straightforward card choices and player interaction. Because cards combine a value with an effect, players have to weigh what they keep against what they play, rather than relying only on luck or a high card. The 2–6 player range also gives it flexibility for a small gathering, while the listed age guidance starts at 7+.

You’ll like it if you want a compact, quick-to-play card game where turns involve a choice about both your own hand and the other players. It offers a different approach from a longer board game: less time set aside, with the focus on short tactical decisions. You may want to skip it if you need English-language rules, as this edition is listed as German.

Is it worth it?

Power Hungry Pets is worth considering if you want a short card game centred on choosing between two cards and weighing their effects. The stated player range and 15-minute playing time make it easy to place into a brief get-together, and the rules appear designed around a simple core decision. The clearest reason to choose a different game is the language: this version is German, so check that it works for the people who will be playing. If that suits your group, its appeal is the quick, interactive format rather than a lengthy strategy experience.
