Compatibility & requirements
The feeder can be set up using pole, wall or tree strap mounting, with mounting hardware included. Its rechargeable battery can be charged by USB-C or powered with the integrated solar panels. Use the Kiwibit app to access bird identification, live viewing and visit alerts. For storage, the camera supports Micro SD card or cloud options. Its camera is designed to focus on the feeder, so the viewing experience centres on visiting birds rather than monitoring the surrounding area.
Everyday use
Set the feeder in a spot where birds can reach the perch, then use the app to follow visits and view captured moments. The wide-angle lens helps include activity around the feeder, while HDR video and 8MP photos record colour and detail. Infrared night vision adds black-and-white footage after dark, making the camera useful for observing visits beyond daylight hours. Two-way audio lets you listen and speak through the device in real time.
The removable feeder components make routine upkeep straightforward: detach and rinse the hopper, tray and perch before adding fresh seed. Its dual-seed design lets you offer two mixes at once, while the extra-wide perch accommodates birds of different sizes. Solar charging can support an outdoor setup, and USB-C charging offers another way to recharge the battery. For a more active birdwatching routine, AI identification and real-time alerts add context to each visit, for a quieter approach, the feeder still works as a place to offer seed and watch birds in the yard.
Practical questions
Can the camera identify visiting birds? The Kiwibit app uses AI to identify bird species and can send alerts when birds visit. It also offers species information and visit summaries.
Does it capture anything after dark? Yes. Infrared night vision records black-and-white footage after dark, alongside the camera’s 4K HDR video and 8MP photos in other conditions.
Can I offer more than one type of seed? The detachable hopper has a dual-seed design, so you can provide two seed mixes. The hopper, tray and perch can be removed for rinsing and refilling.
Is it worth it?
It makes sense if you want a bird feeder that combines everyday feeding with camera-based observation. Solar and USB-C charging options, app-based identification, night vision and removable parts serve different parts of the routine—from keeping the feeder ready for visitors to learning more about the birds that stop by. For backyard bird lovers who want both live viewing and a practical way to offer seed, this setup brings those activities together in one feeder.
