MEASUREMAN MC072 Compost Thermometer, 16-Inch Probe, 1.75-Inch Dial, 0–200°F

Check the temperature inside a backyard compost pile or garden bed with the MEASUREMAN MC072. Its pointed 16-inch probe reaches into compost and soil, while the dial gives you a direct temperature reading at the point of insertion.

The analog display covers 0–200°F and uses three colour-coded zones to make compost activity easier to interpret. A quick glance can show whether the reading falls in the Steady, Active or Hot range.

With a 304 stainless steel case, probe and connection, this thermometer is made for outdoor compost and gardening tasks. It operates without a power source, so readings come from the dial rather than a battery-powered display.

At a glance

The 1.75-inch dial combines a single Fahrenheit scale with three marked temperature zones: blue for Steady at 80–100°F, green for Active at 100–130°F, and grey for Hot at 130–160°F. The colour bands add useful context to the number, making it easier to check the compost’s status during routine pile management. The full measurement range is 0–200°F, with stated accuracy of ±1% and a 60-second response time.

The pointed 16-inch stem is designed for insertion into compost piles, garden beds or soil. Its length helps position the sensing end within the material being monitored, rather than relying on a surface reading. The stainless steel construction across the case, probe and connection suits repeated outdoor use, and the thermometer is reusable.

Usage tips

Insert the pointed stem into the compost or soil you want to monitor, then allow the 60-second response time before reading the dial. Keep the dial visible while positioning the probe so you can read the Fahrenheit scale and its coloured zones clearly. For ongoing compost checks, use the same placement approach each time to make readings easier to compare over time.

This is a straightforward, dial-based alternative to a thermometer that requires power or presents readings only as numbers. Here, the zone colours provide a quick visual reference alongside the measurement, while the scale remains available when you want a more specific temperature reading. No power source is required for operation.

Who it’s for

The MC072 is suited to gardeners monitoring a backyard compost pile, people checking garden soil, and farm users keeping track of compost temperatures. Its analogue display and labelled zones make the reading accessible at a glance, while the Fahrenheit scale supports a more precise check within the thermometer’s range. The reusable stainless steel probe is practical for regular monitoring as compost changes over time.

It suits you if you want one tool for checking compost, soil and organic-waste decomposition without relying on a powered display. For a household compost routine, for example, insert the stem into the pile, wait for the reading to settle, then use the dial’s zone and temperature to follow activity between checks.

When it makes sense

Choose this compost thermometer when a long, pointed probe and an easy-to-read temperature dial are useful for your gardening or farm routine. Its 16-inch stem, 0–200°F scale and three compost zones bring both the reading and a quick activity reference together in one reusable instrument. That combination makes the MEASUREMAN MC072 a practical fit for checking backyard compost, garden beds or farm compost where direct temperature monitoring helps you keep track of conditions.
