Kiwibit BW511 Smart Bird Feeder with 4K Camera, Solar Panel and 1.5 L Capacity

The Kiwibit BW511 brings a 4K camera to a backyard bird feeder, so you can watch visits live and capture detailed photos without leaving the house.

Its 3W adjustable solar panel works with a detachable 5,200 mAh rechargeable battery. A 1.5 L seed capacity means room for a generous supply between refills.

Use the Kiwibit app to view the camera, receive motion alerts and share access with family. The feeder connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and supports iOS and Android devices.

Worth noting

A 132° wide-angle lens gives the camera a broad view of the feeder, while HDR and night vision support viewing in changing light. The camera streams and records in 4K Ultra HD, making it easier to see the detail in close-up bird visits. Real-time alerts can help you catch activity as it happens, and shared access lets up to 20 family members watch together.

AI identification can recognize more than 10,000 bird species and add discoveries to a Bird Collection. AI features require a subscription, a 30-day Kiwibit Plus trial is included. Live viewing, playback and motion alerts are available without a subscription, and free cloud storage includes a rolling one-day video history. For additional storage, use a Micro SD card up to 512 GB or choose a cloud storage option.

Compared with a basic feeder, this model combines seed storage, a camera and app-based viewing in one setup. Buyers highlight the camera’s image quality, the enjoyment of watching birds and the straightforward setup. Some also report concerns about battery life, while comments on overall performance are mixed.

Fit and sizing

The feeder has a 1.5 L seed chamber and measures 17.9 × 28 × 19.5 cm. Its body is made from ABS and PC, with a metal mounting component. The included mounting options support installation on a wall or tree, a pole mount is also an option, but the pole itself is not included. Choose a position that gives birds access to the perch and allows the solar panel to be angled towards sunlight.

Usage tips

Pair the feeder with the Kiwibit app, connect it to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and set up the included mount for your preferred location. Adjust the solar panel to make the most of available sunlight. During extended cloudy or rainy weather, the battery can be removed and charged indoors with a USB-C cable. The detachable design also helps when cleaning the feeder or replenishing seed.

For a shared birdwatching setup, invite family members through the app so they can access the camera from their own accounts. If you want to keep more recordings, save favourite moments to a Micro SD card or select cloud storage, the card is sold separately.

Before you decide

Can I watch live video without a subscription? Yes. Live 4K viewing, playback and motion alerts are available without a subscription. AI bird identification and larger cloud storage require a subscription, and the included 30-day trial gives you a chance to explore Kiwibit Plus.

What Wi-Fi does the feeder use? It connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The product does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi, so use a compatible network when pairing it with the app.

What can I use to mount it? The included mounting assembly supports wall and tree-strap installation. A pole-mount option is also listed, but the pole is not included.

When it makes sense

The Kiwibit BW511 suits bird lovers who want more than a place to put seed: its 4K live camera, motion alerts and app sharing bring backyard visits into everyday viewing, while the solar panel and 1.5 L capacity support a convenient outdoor setup.
