Elgato studio controller Stream Deck +

Technical details

When audio, lighting and app controls are scattered across different screens, small adjustments can interrupt a live session or recording. The Elgato Stream Deck + brings LCD keys, a touch strip and dials together, giving you a tactile way to manage audio, video, lighting and other supported actions from one controller.

Its controls are customizable, and the LCD keys provide visual feedback when a command is executed. The product is described as working with Mac and PC. Elgato also lists integration with Wave Link, Camera Hub, Control Center, OBS, Twitch, YouTube, Discord, Spotify and Philips Hue, among others, the available functions depend on the relevant plugins and software.

Requirements

The stated computer compatibility is Mac and PC. The controller is configured through the Stream Deck app, where setup uses drag and drop and plugins can be added. Wave Link mixing is listed as an available feature. If you are buying it for a particular app or workflow, check that the plugin and actions you need are available for your setup, the product description does not specify operating-system versions or detailed system requirements.

Usage tips

Think of the Stream Deck + as a compact control surface rather than a device that automatically improves a recording. You choose what its keys and dials do. For example, while preparing a stream, you could keep a frequently used action on an LCD key and use the touch strip or dials for supported audio or lighting controls, rather than switching through several app windows. Multi Actions can trigger several actions at once or in sequence, while Smart Profiles can change the interface configuration for different apps.

The app’s customisation is the appeal, but it also means you’ll spend time setting up a layout that suits your routine. It may suit you if you want physical controls and visible feedback for a software-based workflow. It won’t suit you if you expect a ready-made mixer with every control mapped to your preferences straight out of the box.

Buying questions

Can it be used with Mac and PC? The product information states that it works with both. It does not give specific operating-system versions, so check those separately if compatibility is a deciding factor.

Can one control trigger more than one action? Yes. Multi Actions are described as triggering multiple actions at once or sequentially, which can help group repeated steps in a routine.

Does it support apps beyond audio mixing? The listed integrations include production, streaming, lighting and media apps. Plugin availability and the actions offered can vary, so check support for the apps you plan to control.

Before you buy it

The main decision is whether you’ll make use of customizable physical controls, not simply whether the feature list sounds broad. Compared with a basic keyboard shortcut setup, this gives you dedicated keys, dials and a touch strip with visual feedback. A more traditional mixer may make more sense if you need hardware inputs or mixing functions, those are not specified here. Choose the Stream Deck + if its software integrations match your routine and you’re willing to configure them. If you need a particular plugin, action or system version, confirm that detail before choosing.
