Snowkids DT-8K-15M-003 8K Fiber Optic HDMI Cable, 50 ft, 48Gbps

For a home theater, gaming setup, or office installation that needs a long HDMI run, the Snowkids fiber optic cable combines a 50-foot length with HDMI 2.1 support. Its 48Gbps bandwidth and support for 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz make it suited to connecting a source device with a TV, monitor, or projector across a room.

The braided, round cable is designed for indoor or outdoor use and supports a range of HDMI features for entertainment and gaming systems.

Key takeaways

This 50-foot cable supports HDMI 2.1, 48Gbps data transfer, 8K at 60Hz, and 4K at 120Hz. It also supports 3D, HDR color depth, TrueHD 7.1, Ethernet, eARC, VRR, QFT, QMS, ALLM, and DSC. That combination makes it a practical fit for a long connection between a gaming console or laptop and a TV, monitor, projector, or sound system. Backward compatibility with HDMI 2.0b, 2.0a, 1.4, 1.3, 1.2, and 1.1 versions can also suit setups with older HDMI equipment.

Buyers often praise the picture quality, while feedback on durability and video performance is mixed. Some report 4K at 120Hz, while others describe output at 4K at 60Hz. The cable’s stated format support is useful when planning a setup, and the source and display devices also need to support the mode you want to use.

Everyday use

The long reach can help connect equipment placed apart, such as a console near a seating area and a TV mounted elsewhere in the room, or a laptop and a projector for a presentation. Its braided construction suits a cable run that needs to be arranged along a route, while the fiber-optic design carries the signal directionally between the connected devices.

Practical tips

Check the labels on the plugs before connecting: the SOURCE end goes to the signal device, such as a laptop, PC, Blu-ray player, or gaming console, the DISPLAY end goes to the TV, monitor, or projector. This cable is unidirectional, so connecting the ends to the corresponding devices is essential for the signal path. For a particular video mode, make sure the source and display are set up to support that mode as well as the cable. HDMI 2.1 features such as VRR, eARC, and ALLM can be relevant when matching the cable to a gaming or home entertainment system.

What to clarify

Which end connects to a game console or laptop? Connect the console or laptop to the plug marked SOURCE. The DISPLAY plug connects to the television, monitor, or projector.

Can it connect HDMI 2.1 and earlier equipment? The cable is specified for HDMI 2.1 and backward compatible with HDMI 2.0b, 2.0a, 1.4, 1.3, 1.2, and 1.1 versions.

What video formats does it support? Listed formats include 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz, along with 2K, 1080p, and 3D. It also supports HDR and TrueHD 7.1.

Should you buy it?

Choose this Snowkids cable when your setup calls for a 50-foot HDMI connection and you want support for high-bandwidth video and gaming features in one run. Its directional fiber-optic design and clearly marked ends make it especially relevant for linking a distant source device to a TV, monitor, or projector, match the SOURCE and DISPLAY labels to the devices for the intended connection.
