HP Black-and-White Laser Printer 3001dw

If your team mainly prints text documents, a monochrome laser printer can make more sense than paying for color capability you rarely use. The HP LaserJet Pro 3001dw is aimed at small teams and combines wireless printing with automatic two-sided printing for everyday office documents and reports.

It also includes Ethernet and Bluetooth, so you have more than one way to connect. Its main trade-off is clear: it prints in black and white only, and it is designed to work with cartridges that use original HP chips or circuitry.

Technical details

The 3001dw prints black-and-white pages at up to 35 pages per minute for single-sided jobs. Automatic two-sided printing can help reduce paper use on longer reports, though the listed top speed applies to single-sided printing. HP describes it as suitable for teams of up to seven people, which gives a useful sense of its intended office scale without implying it is built for a large print department.

Wireless connectivity is supported, with intelligent Wi-Fi that looks for a strong connection. Ethernet and Bluetooth are also included. HP Wolf Pro Security has customizable settings for protecting the printer and information, a relevant feature when several people share an office device. The printer does not produce color output, so documents that rely on color-coded charts or graphics will need another solution.

Compatibility & requirements

The printer supports wireless printing from mobile devices, PCs, and tablets. Listed platform support includes Microsoft, Mac, AirPrint, Android, and Chromebook. Ethernet offers a wired connection option as well, while Bluetooth is included among its connectivity features.

There is one important supply restriction to factor into ownership: the printer is intended to work only with cartridges containing original HP chips or circuitry, and it will block cartridges using non-HP chips or circuitry. Firmware updates may maintain that restriction. If you usually choose supplies based on broad third-party compatibility, this printer’s cartridge policy could affect your decision.

Usage tips

For a small team sharing reports, agendas, and other text-heavy documents, wireless printing can keep the printer accessible without relying on a single computer. A weekly meeting packet is a practical example: send it from a supported phone or computer, then use automatic two-sided printing for pages that do not need to be single-sided. For a fixed office setup, Ethernet provides a wired alternative to Wi-Fi.

A useful way to judge the speed claim is to keep its scope in mind: up to 35 pages per minute is specified for single-sided black-and-white printing, not every kind of job. This is a document-focused machine, rather than a fit for occasional photo printing or color materials. From the way it is set up, the cartridge policy is worth weighing alongside the connection options, not treating as a minor detail after purchase.

Before you decide

Does it print in color? No. The listed output is black and white, so color charts and images will not print in color.

What is the stated print speed? Up to 35 black-and-white pages per minute for single-sided printing.

Can it use cartridges with non-HP chips? The product information says it will block cartridges using non-HP chips or circuitry.

When it makes sense

A solid pick if your small team prints mostly text-based reports and values wireless access, automatic two-sided printing, and a wired Ethernet option. You may want to skip it if color printing is part of your regular workflow or if you need freedom to use cartridges with non-HP chips. For a shared office that can work within those limits, the 3001dw’s features line up with routine document printing, for mixed-color work, a color-capable printer is the more suitable approach.
