Gbnryg M55J-KF9 Metal Detector with 12-Inch IP68 Coil and Backlit LCD

Some buyers want a straightforward detector for casual outings, while others need more control over what they search for. The Gbnryg M55J-KF9 offers five detection modes, a pinpoint function, and a large backlit LCD. Its telescoping shaft and waterproof search coil suit outdoor use, with an important distinction: only the coil is submersible.

On-body feel

The detector weighs 2.8 pounds and has a silicone grip and supportive armrest, details intended to make it manageable during outdoor searches. Its shaft adjusts from 24 to 52 inches, so it can be set up for different users rather than locked to one length. The tool-free assembly is also useful when you want to pack it away after a trip, customer feedback describes setup and takedown as easy, including for younger and older users.

For a beach walk or a search along a river edge, the 12-inch IP68 coil is designed to cover ground across damp terrain. The control unit is not waterproof, though, so the detector should not be treated as a fully submersible device. The included carry bag, headphones, and foldable digging tool make the set more ready for an outing than a detector sold without accessories.

Benefits

Five modes cover different search approaches: all-metal scanning, junk-metal rejection, custom memory, jewelry detection, and pinpoint positioning. That variety can help when switching between a general search and trying to locate a specific signal. The manufacturer describes the jewelry mode as most effective with high-purity metals, low-purity alloys may produce weaker signals.

A larger backlit LCD is intended to make readings easier to see in dim conditions. The listing also states that the detector can find targets buried up to 12 inches deep, but actual results can depend on the target and ground conditions. Buyers often describe the unit as easy to use and enjoyable for family recreation. Feedback on accuracy is mixed, so the detection modes should be viewed as search aids rather than a guarantee that every signal will be identified correctly.

When it makes sense

You’ll appreciate it if you want a portable detector for hobby searches, family outings, or exploring beaches and moist soil, with multiple modes and accessories in one set. Compared with a simpler detector with fewer search settings, the five modes and pinpoint function offer more ways to approach a target. Customer comments also describe it as fun and easy to assemble, while opinions on battery life vary. The product details do not specify a battery runtime, so plan around battery needs rather than assuming a particular session length. It might not be a great match if you need a detector whose entire control unit can go underwater, the stated waterproofing applies to the search coil only.
