VTech Pog the Gaming Buddy handheld learning console with six game modes
Product description
Six game modes bring counting, letters, reading, shapes and music together in one handheld toy, giving preschool children different activities to explore. Pog welcomes and guides them with friendly phrases as they play. Personalisation lets them enter their name, making the play experience their own.
Key points
Pog combines interactive learning with straightforward button controls. Children can choose from personalisation, counting, lettering, reading, shaping and music modes, with learning activities centred on numbers, letters and shapes. Pre-installed songs and melodies add a musical option when it is time for a change of pace.
A 63 x 32 pixel illuminated LCD display presents the games, while six mode buttons, a four-direction control pad and A and B buttons let children make selections and respond. This gives them a consistent way to move between activities rather than relying on a single type of play. Compared with a toy focused on one learning task, the range of modes offers more variety within the same handheld format.
How it fits
Designed for preschool children, the recommended age range is 12 months to 5 years. Its handheld form and 24.1 cm size make Pog a practical choice for play at home or for bringing along on family outings. The animal theme and friendly guidance help give the activities a playful feel, while the controls are laid out for children to select modes and interact with each game.
For a quiet moment at home, a child can choose a counting or letter activity, music and shape games provide other options when they want to switch tasks. The variety makes it useful for short bursts of play as well as a familiar activity to return to. It is electric, requires three included alkaline batteries, and has an automatic switch-off feature. The battery compartment is described as child-safe.
How to use it
Choose one of the six game modes using the mode buttons, then use the four-direction control pad and the A and B buttons to interact. To personalise the toy, enter the child’s name. Pog’s spoken phrases guide and encourage children through the games, so they can follow the activity as they play. No assembly is required, the product comes with an instruction manual.
